IF YOU HAVE TO RENT GEAR FOR THIS EVENT PLEASE DO SO AT THE DAY BEFORE OR AT THE MORNING. THE U of C OUTDOOR CENTER OPENS AT 8:00 AM.
COST FOR ALL THE GEAR IS $17.00 PER DAY AT U OF C.

Where: Several trail options, Peter Lougheed Park (PLPP) Kananaskis county
Distance: 20.0 km approx. (roundtrip)
Elevation gain: ? m
Time: 8-10 hours (driving included)
(Don't make plans that depend on it. Mountains are unpredictable).
Difficulty: Intermediate XC Skiing with several downhill sections (difficult sections)
Green = Easy, Blue=more difficult, Black = most difficult
Route Planned: Several options. See Map
Safety: Winter hazards including frostbite and hypothermia
Trail conditions: Groomed
Trails are groomed and marked on some spots trails are not groomed depending on snow conditions, and the area is in an avalanche free zone. There are several downhill sections that will add challenge.
We will meet up at Dalhousie LRT Station on parking lot behind chapters at 9:00 am (Look for the guy with grey backpack and blue down jacket). If you are new to XC, and have to rent equipment please do so the day before or the morning of the event. We will not be able to wait if you don't have the gear. The U of C outdoor rental centre opens at 8:00 am. I recommend getting non-waxable skis. We will depart Calgary latest 9:00 am, and arrive at the PLPP parking lotaround 11:00 am (if the roads are good).
Mandatory gear: Warm winter clothes (no jeans and cottons!), XC Ski gear (skis, poles, boots), gaiters (if no snow/ski pants), gloves, lunch and snacks, 3 litres of water, sunglasses, headlamps.
Recommended: Hand and toe warmers, first aid kit, emergency blanket, hot drink in thermos, camera
Event Participation: CORA trips start at the trailhead; but as a favour to our participants, we will carpool in town at the specified meetup place (i.e. Dalhousie LRT Station, Parking lot behind chapters). The event host(s) hold the right to remove you from the trip or add you into the trip from the waiting list depending on transportation readiness, previous hiking experience, and commitment to the CORA events. Don't be surprised, and then go on flaming the event host(s) if you are moved to the 'waiting list' or 'not attending' list. This is nothing personal.
Please be on time (aim between 8:45 and 9.00 am). We will carpool at Dalhousie LRT and leave at 9:20 am for Peter Lougheed provincial park.
Dogs: Not this time.
Directions and Transportation: Take Hwy 1 to Highway 40. Go south until the winter gate and turn right. We will meet at the PLPP visitor centre The centre has washrooms, maps etc. we can get ready inside there.
Costs: Members are free. Non-members fee is $5.
If you want to become a member of CORA, the annual fee is $20 (Valid until annual general meeting in February 2014).
If you are not driving, please contribute some gas $$ money for drivers (In K-Country trips, this is around $5 to $10 depending on driver's discretion).
Trip Waiver and Conditions: You must sign a trip waiver to attend to this event even if you are a paid member. Here is the waiver you are expected to sign:
