Introduction to Map and Compass

Dress for the weather. It's suppose to be partially cloudy but warm on Saturday. The hike itself will not be particularly taxing as this is an opportunity to work on some basic map and compass skills. With that said, bring a compass to work with. We will be going to the Barrier Lake area. Elevation gain, minimal.

Bring a small pack, change of clothes as appropriate for the weather, a snack, and some water.

This is a CORA event, so you may attend if you are a member or for the day as a non-member. Memberships are $20 for the year. Non-member is $5 for the day.

This trip is dog friendly. You may bring your dog.

CORA events start at the trailhead. We will meet at Dalhousie C-Train Station for car pooling.

Dress for a hike. Bring your compass. We will be doing basic navigation, but we'll leave orienteering for another day. I may look at doing a night orienteering event in the summer, just to see how many people I can lose at one time. Cheers.

"compass" - my Suunto watch has a compass that shows the NSEW and degrees...would that work for this practice day? If this requires a sighting compass with baseplate & mirror I can get one from MEC tmrw.

Ugur, what workshop are you doing on Saturday? I'm going to the Coyote Mentoring workshop. I've heard a lot about Coyote, so it'll be interesting to learn more.
