    Hi everybody,
A reminder that you are signed up for hiking Yamnuska tomorrow. I love this traverse and am excited to do it again! I have been saving it for a rainy day, when conditions aren't so good in other places. And tomorrow is certainly a good day for it. The forecast for tomorrow is -4 to +2 degrees with light flurries. You will want to bring wind and wet weather protective clothing, and some warm layers to put on and take off. Microspikes are a must as it has rained recently and we can expect some icy trail conditions everywhere in K-country. We will leave from McMahon Stadium at 8:00 am. I hope you guys stick it out and join me tomorrow. I think you will enjoy the day! If you are planning to cancel, please update your RSVP so I know not to wait for you at the meetup location!
    See you soon!

sorry, D6 bit excessive for my first hike of year

    • Becky

:( Too bad, we'll miss you! It is usually listed as D5 - I am being conservative because I am worried about winter conditions. I think you would find it fine...

With such a weather and such an objective it's likely that I'll chicken out.

I see that nobody is waiting, so I can still wait a bit.

    • Becky

Hi Catalin, I am sorry that I had to change the objective too! Old Baldy has been on my list for a long time. I have done Yamnuska before, so at least I know what I am getting the group into. It is a pretty easy scramble - the two sections shown in the pictures in the trip description are the only hard parts. The decent is on a very loose scree slope - most people find this kind of scree the easiest to go down hill on. The guy at the info centre told me that the slope is in pretty good condition - probably snow free.

sorry Becky, think I will have to be a late scratch. Would still really like to do Old Baldy some time!

    April 6, 2013

    • Becky

Me too! Baldy would have been first choice, but I thought it best to play it safe. May and June will come soon enough.

Are you planning on doing the traverse?

    April 6, 2013

Hi Sam, I do plan to do the full traverse.

Sorry, not feeling well. I dont think that I will be well enough for Sunday.

    April 5, 2013

  • Becky

Hi guys, I just got off the phone with Barrier Lake Info Centre. It has snowed lots in k-country recently and they are expecting more to come. Avalanche conditions are "moderate" even in the trees. There would be a section of class 2 terrain as we go up the ridge. I am going try this one again later and change this one to hike up Yamnuska instead. Micro-spikes will be required, but we should not need snowshoes.
