D4 Moderate to Difficult Hike - Wasootch Ridge

Description:

WASOOTCH RIDGE DAY HIKE

Distance: 12 km return

Roundtrip Time: 4-6 hours est. + driving time

Height gain: About 1000 m

This trip is a level Difficulty Level 4 Trip, almost a 5. This means that you should expect some up hill hiking up for extended amounts of time and moderately challenging trail conditions which may include loose rock/gravel, mud, ice or snow. The distance is short but the height gain is high. This should indicate to you that there may be steep terrain. We will hike at a moderate (not too fast, not too slow pace).

RSVP: Update your RSVP as early as possible, at least 48 hours before the meeting time. If you are unable to attend for any reason whatsoever, LET ME KNOW as soon as possible. Please indicate in your COMMENTS if you can drive, if necessary. I need to know if we have adequate transportation for all participants, not your preference to ride.

TRIP WAIVER AND CONDITIONS: You must sign a CORA Annual Waiver to attend this event. Please download and print the waiver here. There is a cost of $20 to become an annual member.

Level: A good / strong level of fitness is required for this hike, although our pace will be moderate. Please be realistic about your abilities. Please gauge your abilities appropriately. Organizers are not here to babysit you.

Dogs: Dogs are not recommended on this trip.

Driving and Directions: From the C-train station, we will follow Hwy 1 westbound and then turn on highway 40 and into Kananaskis Country. 17 kms south of Hwy1, we'll turn left into Wasootch Creek day use parking area.

Weather forecast: unknown

Trail conditions: unknown (probably some snow and ice)

Costs: Members are free. Non-members fee is $5. Gas contributions for drivers is expected by all participants(see below).

Transport: CORA trips start at the trailhead. As a convenience to participants only, we meet at the meeting point in Calgary then car pool from there. Please be on time. We don't want to have to wait around long. You may choose to meet us at the trailhead, but please advise us ahead of time. Please indicate in your RSVP COMMENTS if you can drive, if necessary. Please reimburse some $$ to drivers for gas.

EQUIPMENT: --Hiking Boots, daypack, water, icers / yat-track, poles

It was a great day and really nice group. Conrad even arranged to have the sun shine through the clouds on the decent to give us some spectacular views!

Hi again, I was hoping that I will get an answer by now to know what I should do for tomorrow. Unfortunately for me is very inconvenient to go to meet the group at the Dallhousie CT station instead to meet you at the Petro Canada as it is very far for me and not on my way at all. I would like to go on this hike but I have to back out as I did not get an answer. I hope will meet on a next trip.

Thank you for accepting me for this hike. Can you please let me know if I can meet the group at the Petro Canada Station on a HWY 1? and if yes the time when should I be there.

Sorry but I have to bow out. I have an old injury at the Achilles tendon and looks like is acting up. Enjoy the trip.

Hi, in case that I will be accepted to go can I meet the group at the Petro Canada Station on a HWY1 as I am leaving down far SW. If someone else is leaving close to the Somerset CT train station I can give a ride. Thank you, Mihaela

Conrad, my Friend, I'd join you on this spectacular ridge hike, but I'm committed to a Sweatlodge this Saturday. Have Fun !!
Btw: I think it'd be cool to do a full link over to Wasootch Creek, with a car pickup.

O I really want to do this again. Last year, I was unable to get to the top due to lack of readiness and skill. Alas, have to work on this week and possibly the next, to clear the backlog so as to have more time in May when the weather is good. Have fun out there! I'll likely do both Wasootches (the Ridge and the Peak) in May.

I live on campus at UofC and don't have a car. If anyone will be driving near me and is willing to offer a carpool, I would sincerely appreciate it- thanks!
