D4 Prairie Mountain. Friday evening Sunset Hike

  • Apr 26, 2013 · 5:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We will meet at the west end of the parking lot, behind Chapters

We will drive west on Crowchild Trail and take Stoney Trail to Hwy 1. We will follow hwy 1 to Hwy 22 (Petro Canada Station) and head south past Bragg Creek to Hwy 66. We will then follow hyw 66 west for approx. 22km where the trailhead is.

Hike Length 7.0km return
Elevation gain: 700m
Total hiking Time est. : 3 hrs + 2 hrs driving

This is a fast pace evening hike with return during darkness: Head lights or flashlights are mandatory, as well as Icers (Yak-trak). We should be back in Calgary no later than 11:00 PM

Hiking footwear required - Sorry no sneakers/approach type shoes or jeans. Not a good idea to wear cotton clothing, you'll only chill out fast.

The hike up Prairie Mountain is a steep and steady climb to a rock cairn with 360 degree views of the mountains in the area.

PACE: This could be a beginner hike, but because we will be hiking in the evening, we will be hiking at a moderate to fast pace on gentler grades and at a modeerate pace on steeper terrain.

RSVP: Update your RSVP as early as possible. Have consideration for those on the Waiting List and for your fellow hikers and organizer. If you are unable to attend for any reason whatsoever, LET ME KNOW as soon as possible. If you do not let me know, you will be recorded as "no show".

My cell phone is[masked]

TRIP WAIVER AND CONDITIONS: You must sign a trip waiver to attend this event if you are not a "paid" member yet. Yearly membership fee is $20, or $5 for the day. Please read the Rules of Conduct if you have not already.

LEVEL: This is a moderate hike.
Please be realistic about your abilities. Being overly optimistic may limit you and the group and possibly lead to injury or worse. Please gauge your abilities appropriately. Organizers are not here to babysit you. Please let me know ahead of time if you have any medical conditions.

NOTE: Bring Bearspray if you have some.

DOGS: Not permitted.

Members are free. Non-members fee is $5. Member fee is $20.  Please print, complete and bring your registration form.  Gas contributions for drivers are expected by all participants(see below).

Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.
Please indicate in your RSVP COMMENTS if you can drive, if necessary. I need to know if we have adequate transportation for all participants.

EQUIPMENT: Sturdy hiking boots. No sandals, sneakers, running shoes or street shoes. Weather can change quickly -- rain, snow, wind, warm, or cool

Mandatory - sense of humour (bring fun!), head lamps, food, at least 1.5 L of water, layers, sturdy hiking boots.
Recommended - camera, hiking poles
