Introduction to Map and Compass

We will be doing basic navigation with map and compass, including:

1) understanding your compass;

2) taking a bearing;

3) reading a topographic map;

4) using a map to set a bearing;

5) delineation; and

6) triangulation.

We will be going to Barrier Lake for the afternoon. Dress for a easy hike for the weather.

WHAT TO BRING: Bring a snack and water. If you have the Gem Trek "Canmore and Kananaskis Village" map bring it with you. Bring a compass. Bring a pencil.

COST: Free for CORA members. Annual memberships are $20 for the year. $5 for non-members for the day.

CAR POOLING: We will meet at the north west end of the Dalhousie LRT station parking lot and arrange rides. CORA trips start at the trailhead.

    Last minute change of meetup time.
    Coordinator did not manage to stay properly informed of road conditions and decided to change event location (urban area instead of Barrier Lake) at the carpool location.

    Hwy 40 is closed because of mudslide. Rob, can I suggest doing this, perhaps somewhere in the city?
