Aylmer Lookout\moderate D5 hike

  • June 8, 2013 · 7:00 AM
  • McMahon Stadium

i have been wanting to ascend mount aylmer however not going to be this time for we will only hike up to the aylmer lookout and enjoy the veiws, lunch and the peace and quiet from there.having said that this area is a bear sancturary so we will need to stay tight together as a group and leave no straggelers behind.ticks are out in full now so we will have to be aware of these little guys.

Our route will follow the edge of Lake Minnewanka for 7.8km, then steeply ascend to the lookout over the next 4km. We will be leaving early to make sure we have ample time for the hike as our pace will be moderate to slow.Do some resaerch for your own and the group for this will be along day outdoors.

See here for more information.

Route

Transportation

CORA trips start at the trailhead, but as a favor to our participants, we will convene at the meeting point and carpool from there. Please be on time, we won't be waiting more than ten minutes maximum. If you'd like, you may meet us at the trailhead, but please advise the organizers of this ahead of time.

Please indicate in your RSVP comments if you can drive. If you cannot, please bring some money to reimburse drivers.

For drivers, to get to the trailhead: Head west from Calgary on the Trans-Canada Hwy 1. Take the first Banff exit (also signed for Lake Minnewanka) and immediately turn right (north) onto Lake Minnewanka road. Drive 5½ km on Lake Minnewanka Road to the large paved parking lot at the west end of the lake.
