D5: Easy Scramble - Snow Peak

# Credit to Jason L.

Max: 8-10 people.

Where: Burstall Pass Area (Peter Lougheed P.P.)

Distance: 19 km (roundtrip)

Elevation gain: 1150 m (Calgary tower is 191 m)

Hiking time: 8-10 hours (roundtrip) including driving time. Only an estimate.

Difficulty: Strenuous hike, some hands on climbing on a screeful train.

Skill level: A good level of fitness with strong legs required. This is not a beginner's trip. This is an alpine scramble and you must be comfortable with the elevation and heights. I'll be asking your level of experience.

Pace: Slow-Moderate

Hazards: Mountains are obviously dangerous places! Bring your bear sprays and rock helmets.

Trail Conditions: Unknown

Weather Conditions:

Driving/Carpooling: The trip starts at Burstall Pass Day use area. It's currently accessible from Canmore. I'll check with K-Country before the trip and see if the Spray Lakes trail is open from Hwy 40.

Mandatory Gear: Backpack (20+ litres with straps), waterproof hiking boots, rock helmet, trekking poles, windstopping shell layers, food and snacks, at least 3 litres of water, gaiters, headlamp, sunglasses, hat/cap, sunscreen, first aid kit (minimum blister and wound care kits).

Optional Gear: Camera, map and compass, microspikes, ice axe, GPS, sunscreen, sonic balaclava, fire starter.

• Do not bring the following:Jeans, casual shoes (including sneakers/trainers), cotton layers, small running packs.

Costs: CORA membership is $20. If you are not a CORA member, you're required to make paypal online payments. (Trip organizers will not accept cash payments). There are two options: (1) Paying $20 and purchasing a full annual membership. (2) Paying $5 as a casual day hiker.

Cancellation Policy: 48 hours prior to the trip. Friday late night cancellations will result in having 'No Show.'

During the trip, you are expected to follow the trip organizer(s) and stick with the group. However, CORA trip organizer(s) are NOT certified mountain guides, but only experienced hikers volunteering and sharing their knowledge. As such, you are responsible for your own safety and equipment.

Until you're confirmed CORA 2013 Member, I cannot add you into this list. So I had to move some of you into the waiting list. Payments are made online, and I can no longer accept cash on the trailhead. As soon as you're confirmed as Member 2013, I'll move you back into the trip.

Hi Ugur can you let me know where I can pay as for the other groups I gave the money to the coordinator. I feel sorry that you moved me on the waiting list as I have to take turns with my husband and he has already plan for Sunday so I have to sign out as I really want to go hiking this Saturday and being on waiting list doesn't give much chances. I hope you will take me next time and tell me where I have to pay.

Hi Mihaela, the payment link is located on the CORA/Meetup Index page, on the left side of screen. When you click on that, it'll get you to the Paypal site.
