Bike and Hike: Canyon Creek Ice Cave

  • Location: Bragg Creek area. Hwy 66 (elbow falls trail). Turn north onto canyon creek road and drive 650 m to Ings mine parking lot.

    Time at Dalhousie: 9:00 am

    Difficulty: Bike: easy for cyclists (Mountain bike). Hike: Moderate: Short distance but steep scree.


    Distance: Aprox. 10 km by bike (round trip), Aprox. 2 km on foot: steep hillside of shale and rubble.
    Elevation gain: 275 m.

    Hiking book: Kananaskis country trail guide. Vol 2. trip 18.


    Time required: 4-5 hours on trail plus driving time (2h).


    Trip Waiver and memebership fee/cost : You must sign a trip waiver to attend to this event. The organizer will bring the waivers to the meeting venue to be signed. If you are not a “paid” 2013 member. you will have to pay online $20 for yearly memebership.

    Cost: Members free. Yearly membership fee  $20 or $5 for the day. Gas contributions for drivers are expected by all the participants and it will be confirmed and agreed with your carpool driver.


    Dogs: NOT permitted


    Note 1: The organizer will be giving priority to members who can transport their own bikes and bikes for others. The pace will be moderate.

    Note 2: We will do a short exploration to the cave; a few meter in until it safe and comfortable walking. This is NOT a caving trip. Expect cold and wet conditions inside the cave, so bring proper waterproof and warm cloths. 

    Note 3: If I do not know you, please let me know your experience biking and hiking. I need to make sure all the group is in a similar level.

    Required Equipment:
    • Mountain bike
    • Headlamp
    • Helmet: Mandatory
    • Repair kit (spare tube, patch kit, tire levers, pump or CO2 inflators, repair tools/multi tools)
    • Biking gloves
    • Hiking shoes.
    • Dress in layers: fleece, waterproof jacket. NO Cotton, NO jeans.
    • At least 2 L of water
    • Snacks / high energy food

    • Hiking poles
    • Camara
    • Bear spray

      Ana, the best way to get started is to just RSVP for a hike that interests you and go. If you have specific questions, go to the profile page of myself or any the other organizers and send us an email or post a message. We're all pretty friendly and like to help new members get active in CORA and out to the mountains.
