The ski tour to Healy Pass is easily accessible and gets you up high without too much difficulty. The views from the pass are outstanding – Mount Assiniboine can be seen very clearly to the south, Monarch Mountain is very imposing and the view of the Egypt Lake group of peaks and Mount Ball to the northwest is very impressive. The return trip to the parking lot involves some short steep sections which my require some members to walk down. We will be starting out from the Sunshine parking lot. There will be no backcountry skiing (down hill) on this event.

We will be leaving Calgary at 6:15 am please be gassed up, feed, and ready to leave.

It is your responsibility to make sure you have acquired all necessary equipment, clothing, and food for this trip. All outdoor activities involve a certain degree of risk, so it is up to you to be prepared, resilient, self-reliant, responsible, cautious, and aware of surrounding hazards. As well, mountain weather can be unpredictable, so be prepared for unforeseen changes. For safety reasons, if you show up for this event unprepared or with inappropriate clothing and or gear you will not be permitted to continue on the trip. Organizers are not guides. If renting gear please make sure it works and all parts are there.

·  A National Park Pass for each vehicle will be required.

·  Trip members will be responsible for setting up their own car-pooling.

·  We will be stopping in Banff for hot springs and dinner after the trip. If you are not interested in participating, please make arrangements to car-pool with others not attending. You will need a bathing suit and towel.

We are now down to 3 individuals, and as the trip is already limited in its scope due to avalanche condutions, I'm going to reschedule. All members previously registered will have priority on the date.

Sorry Will, I was really looking forward to it My front bearing on my truck is shot and I need to replace it. I am not making it up. I just recently got my touring skis and I am badly in need of practice.

Are there any exposed slopes that could avalanche? I got this description: "Avalanche risk is low and this one can be done even early or late in the season." On the other hand "Ski Trails in the Canadian Rockies" (book) says that the trail crosses major avalanche paths. Can this be mitigated by going around \ on the other side? I never been there so I am just guessing.

Just to let you folks know that Healy Pass Trail crosses 2 avalanche paths. Nothing too serious, but in 1990 four experienced skiers died in a massive avalanche on that trail. Avalanche rating for that day was HIGH as it is for Saturday.

I prefer to manage the risk by doing Louise X-trails.
    Cheers.

Risks are way to high for Healy Pass on Saturday. Too bad. Other suggestions William?

Car pooling is left up to the members and is not the responsibility of the organizer. In the case of a one day event, car pooling can be organized in the parking lot, but we will be leaving the parking lot at 6:15am. We will have space for one person. To be efficient, just be on time and ready to go.

William, could you please advise how carpooling to Sunshine is working? I just posted a note below for assistance with getting to MaMahon, but I'm unsure about getting to Sunshine as the trip details indicates "trip members will be responsible for setting up their own carpooling". What's the most efficient way to organize this? Thanks for your help with this.

Hello mountain friends. I was wondering if anyone would be able to provide a lift to me on Saturday to McMahon? I'm at 17 Avenue and 5 Street SW by Western High. There is Starbuck's one block from where I live and I will happy buy your morning Joe in return. :)

If anyone one has signed up for this event to backcountry ski / get turns in please note that we will not be down hill skiing on this event. Ski touring is basically nordic skiing / cross country skiing without a track set trail.
