D4: Lake Minnewanka Backpacking Trip

Executing Plan B: Lake Minnewanka Backpacking Trip

Treat this event as an introduction to 3 season backpacking. As such, expect sunshine, rain, chilly nights, and even some snow. You must have intermediate backpacking experience and comfortable with weather and distance. 

Please sign up to the waitlist first, then, to the pre-trip meeting. Please also take some time and respond to the pretrip meeting (Don't simply click on yes on your smartphone without reading the description). Those who won't will be moved back to not attending list.

Where: Banff National Park

When: June 7, 8, 2014. 

Max: 10

Distance: 8-12km (one way)

Elevation Gain: Variable. 

Backcountry Skills: A good level of fitness, navigation, and first aid. 

Backpacking Difficulty: Intermediate.

Hazards: Mountains are inherently dangerous. Make sure you have the required clothing, gear, toughness, conditioning, attitude, and sense of humour. 

Driving/Carpooling: Self-arranged carpooling. Will be discussed in the pre-trip meeting. 

Estimated Costs: Camping permit and wilderness pass ($20), gas money for your driver, food and gear.   

Style: Partnering up for tenting is recommended. 

Gear: 3 season backpacking gear --- will be elaborated on in the pre-trip meeting. 

During the trip, you are expected to follow the trip organizer(s) and stick with the group. However, CORA trip organizer(s) are NOT certified mountain guides, but only experienced hikers volunteering and sharing their knowledge. As such, you are responsible for your own safety and equipment. 

YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO SIGN A TRIP WAIVER!

    Hey guys, I forgot to mention that there is not a firewood pile apparently at this campsite. So if someone has a hatchet that we can use for deadfall, it would be great to bring it!
