Family Backpack--Laughing Falls, Yoho National Park

  • Aug 16, 2014 · 9:00 AM

The Laughing Falls backcountry campsite is a 4 km hike up the Yoho Valley, perfect for kids 8 and up. After setting up camp we can explore or let the kids play and the parents can relax. As of July 24, there were 3 sites left at the campsite.

Distance: 4 km (one way)

Elevation gain: 60 m

Cost: $9.80/adult for the backcountry camping permit

Kids: You must have a kid with you to come on this trip. For the purposes of this trip

If you're interested, RSVP yes and answer the questions, use the comments form, or contact me via email or phone [masked]).

I'd also like to do an overnight family backpack trip in September or early October, so if you're interested let me know.

Thanks for coming out! The boys had a blast with Julien, and it was a fun weekend all around.

Tannis, you have to call Yoho to see if there are any campsites left at Laughing Falls (the number is in a post below). Then pay either the CORA membership or drop-in fee for you and your husband (your daughter is free), and you're in! It should be a fun weekend.

Thanks for the info Ken ... Looks like this trip won't work for us - would be interested in an early Fall trip if a group is planning on going out! Have fun!

New to Meetup - what a great idea :) We (hubby and 17 year old daughter) are looking to do a backcountry camping trip - would like to do it on Aug. 22 and 23 - pretty flexible on where. Is this trip for Laughing Falls this weekend full? Not sure my daughter could book the time off at this point but could look into it if there is room?

Walker and Elaine, please confirm by Monday, August 11 at 5 p.m. that you've reserved your campsite and have paid your CORA membership/drop-in fee. At that time I'll be closing RSVPs and only those who are confirmed will be coming.

    Elaine,

Welcome to the family backpacking trip! To book your campsite and pay the backcountry camping fee, call Yoho at[masked]-6783.

    http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-np/bc/yoho/activ/arrierepays-backcountry/reservations.aspx

Once you've booked your site, pay the CORA annual membership or drop in fee for yourself (your kid is free).

Next weekend I'll be sending details on when and where we're meeting the day of the hike.

If you have any other questions, just ask.

I'd be up for the Sept/Oct trip, but don't have any kids!

My fiance is a teacher and she's enjoying her well deserved holidays away from kids these days. Don't want trouble for me! Haha

Lots of sites at Three Isle Lake and a few at the Forks in Kananaskis.

There's only one campsite left at Elbow Lake for August 16th...

    Can my four-legged child qualify?

    July 13, 2014

    • Ken

As long as a two-legged child accompanies you both!

Then I guess I will have to pass. Thx!

Sadly we can't make it that weekend.

Hi Ken. Julian and I may be interested and I believe we are available that weekend. My vote would be for Elbow Lake. I was just on another hike and walked up to Elbow and thought it would be a great place to backpack to and they have the group campfire spots which are nice too. We have already been to the Point a couple of years ago and it was nice. I think Lillian Lake is closed (unless you know another way then the Galatea hike). I went there a couple of weeks ago and the trail was closed.

Thanks for the info on Lillian Lake. Elbow Lake would be good for the kids. After we set up camp we could hike up to Rae Glacier.

Is it mandatory to have kids? :D

    July 13, 2014

    • Ken

Valeh, for this one a kid has to bring you. If you don't have one, you can borrow or steal one from a friend.
