D5 - Hike Pocaterra Ridge

This trip is a shuttle so we will need a minimum of 2 drivers!

Trip Statistics

Difficulty: D5

Distance: 9 km

Elevation Gain: 550m

Hiking Time: 4-6 hours plus 4 hrs driving time

Speed: Moderate / Steady

Pocaterra Ridge is a very scenic ridge walk and hopefully the larches will be turning which will make it even more so. A photographers paradise. There is elevation gain, rocky footing and in some places some route finding may be required.

We will need to car shuttle as we will be starting from Highwood Pass and ending at Little Highwood Pass doing the South to North route.

To bring List:

- rain/winter gear & suitable mountain layered clothing, fleece and windproof shell, gloves, hat

- lunch, snack, power bars & liquids (2 L recommended)
- hiking poles, gaiters
- first aid kit
- mole skin or blister bandaids
- Sunglasses, suncreen, lip balm
- Hiking Boots - No running shoes
- Camera

No charge to 2012 members - $5 for non-members.

The waiting list, if needed, is automatic. Members will receive a notification saying they've been moved to the YES list - please confirm or remove yourself asap.

This is NOT a guided tour - I haven't hiked this trail before, so be prepared! Maps and guide books are everyone's friend.

You must be comfortable and experienced in ridge walks and mountain terrain. You must be able to look after yourself and have basic hiking skills. This is rated as a difficult hike due to the loose scree, elevation gain and mild exposure. If you have not hiked before or recently hiked with 500M+, this hike is not for you.

Great day playing in deep powder in October! Thanks Cheryl and Peter for good company and a lot of fun. We'll have to return when the conditions allow us to complete the ridge.
