D5: Winter Scramble | Ha Ling & Miner's Peak

Please read the entire description before signing up.

I don't give guided tours.

Ha Ling & Miner's Peak (Easy Scramble)

Distance: 6 km

Elevation gain: 819 m

Time: 4 hours

(Don't make plans that depend on it. It's the mountains!)

Difficulty: Steep hike, switchbacks, and snowy talus and scree on alpine terrain

Skill level: For fit hikers (Not recommend for beginners)

Pace: Slow-to-Moderate

(If you are looking for an Olympic decathlon, you are in the wrong trip.)

Safety: Snow and Wind

Trail Conditions: Snowy

Weather Conditions: Rainy + Snowy + Sunny

(In the mountains, expect anything!)

Location: Canmore

Winter has arrived folks. But that doesn't mean that we should stay home and climb on the couch. Even though a great part of K-country is heavily snowed, we still have many options where we can continue to enjoy summit-driven scrambles.

I'm also interested in going for a supper and hot chocolate in Canmore after the trip.

Gear Required: Microspikes/crampons, hiking boots or mountaineering boots (snowshoes if you prefer), hiking poles, warm clothes and shell layers, food and minimum 2litres of water (don't bring bladders, they freeze up).

Recommended: Ice axe, climbing helmet, camera, gaiters.

Directions: Drive to Canmore. Drive up highway #742, the Smith-Dorrien-Spray Lakes Trail towards the Canmore Nordic Centre. Continue past the turn-off for the Nordic Centre, keeping to the left. Continue on the gravel and park in the Goat Creek Parking Lot.
