READ THE ENTIRE WRITE-UP BEFORE SIGNING UP FOR THIS TRIP!!!

The trailhead is located at the Shark Mountain parking lot. We will follow the Watridge Lake trail for the first 3-4km before crossing the Bryant Creek on a bridge. There will be rolling terrain with one steep, open hillside climb before reaching the Bryant Creek Shelter.
The intent of this trip is to travel (tour) not backcountry ski.

The hut has wood stove for heat only (i.e., not for cooking) and wooden sleeping platforms (i.e., mattresses recommended for greater comfort). The hut has no lighting and no cooking stoves. There is an accessible outhouse.

We will be leaving Calgary at 8:00 am so please be gassed up, feed and ready to leave.

It is your responsibility to make sure you have acquired all necessary equipment, clothing, and food for this trip. All outdoor activities involve a certain degree of risk, so it is up to you to be prepared, self-reliant, responsible, cautious, and aware of surrounding hazards. As well, mountain weather can be unpredictable, so be prepared for unforeseen changes. For safety reasons, if you show up for this event unprepared or with inappropriate clothing and or gear you will not be permitted to continue on the trip.

It is my intent to empower members to take responsibility and gain backcountry experience and knowledge. This event should be viewed as a learning experience as well as a fun filled trip.

  • We will be sharing bunks in the hut between 2-4 people.
  • Trip members will be responsible for setting up their own car-pooling prior to the trip start date.
  • We will be stopping in Banff for hot springs and dinner after the trip. If you are not interested in participating, please make arrangements to car-pool with others not attending.

MANDITORY PRE-TRIP MEETING: December 4, 2012

At the meeting all required permits and or reservations need to be presented to the trip organizer, or you risk being removed from the trip. Any fees incurred by the group leader for your participation in the trip must be paid in full by this date. Fees paid by the group leader will be non- refundable and non-transferable (this trip involves commitment).

I am bringing an ultralight stove that I am more than happy to share, but I'd just kindly ask that if anyone wishes to use it...that they consider leaving room in their bag for one small fuel cannister (so that I'm not stuck hauling in/out fuel cannisters for the whole group since I'm a short girl with a small backpack). They're super light, but take up premium space. Thanks! : )

    December 28, 2012

    • Meghan

Super duper! I have lots of fuel already (no worry about cost), its just the carrying/space in my pack I'd like to share. : )

      December 28, 2012

    • Meghan

No worries. It was just a spare canister anyways. Sorry we'll miss you, but hope you two get better soon! :)

Please remember when packing we are not sharing meals, only snacks. For those interested we are going to the hot springs after the trip, so bring bathing suit, towel, and a change of clothing that can be left in the vehicle.

Thank you for those of you who have indicated what food they will bring to the potluck. There are still a few in the group from whom we have not heard so this is just a gentle reminder to please remember that dinner will be a potluck on NYE. And if you know what you will be bringing, let us know! :)

Ditto for me on the onions. I will have my own sans-onion food to share, so please strike that off the list also.

      December 5, 2012

Onion is easier because I can easily identify it! :) Gluten is a bit trickier to pick out.

I thougt the description at the following link was pretty useful...particularly the comment around some decent up and down hills where people with backpacks usually choose to walk it. http://www.trailpeak.com/trail-Mount-Shark-to-Bryant-Creek-Shelter-near-Kananaskis-AB-5895
