Mount Head Difficult Scramble

Mount Head is one of the highest peaks in the Highwood Range and presents an inviting challenge to scramblers. While most of the route is a moderate scramble there is one difficult step on the ascent via the east ridge. We will descend southeast slopes to avoid downclimbing the crux.

Apart from the technical challenge the mountain will be a difficult day as we have to cover a lot of distance to the foot of the mountain. Estimated time is at least 10 hrs; don't plan anything for the evening!

I will be screening people for this trip so add yourself to the waiting list and I will begin moving people onto the trip immediately.

If the forecast precipitation makes an attempt infeasible then we will salvage the day by climbing Gunnery Mountain.

Bring summer scrambling gear with some extra layers as the weather can still turn winter-like. Mountaineering axe and helmet will be mandatory and a traction device (such as microspikes) is strongly recommended.

The route is barely in shape but the crux is free of snow. Thanks to Andrea and Heath for an incredible day!

The trip is full but if there are any cancellations I'll move people on the waiting list to the trip.
