Turtle Mountain

I know is late notice but I think I'll head south to Crowsnest Pass and scramble up Turtle Mtn. (one of my do overs).

Turtle is quite straight forward, We park at the trailhead in Coleman and then go up for about 800 meters to the summit.

Driving time to Coleman is about 2.5 hours each way (my plan is to take Hwy 22 if possible).  So all in with a stop for food will be about 10 hours.

The forecast looks good and you will need:

Helmet

Food

Water

Insect Repellant

Sunscreen

Conditions are great. Only remnants of snow are out of the way in the fissures. Everything is dry and stable.

Hopefully nobody is stuck in the mess with Deerfoot, but I don't see anyone yet.

Just really watch the state of the fissures at the first (north) summit, and through the traverse to the south, if you decide to do both. I'm curious how the rain would have affected things up there.

Hey Tom, I'm pretty sure the trailhead is in Blairmore, not Coleman. That's a bit further down the highway.

As far as I know parking at the Train Station is fine and free.

Hwy 22 is only closed between Black Diamond and Turner Valley. The rest of it south of Black Diamond to Crowsnest Pass is good. If we can't access Turtle there are several other options in the area or along the way.

    Hey guys,

This sounds like plenty of fun! However, I won't know for sure if I can go until I get a text from my boss telling me whether or not there is work in our downtown building. At this time of day, it's probably it's safe to assume that I can scramble tomorrow, but I will either post here or text Tom to confirm once I hear from my boss.

If it's OK, I'll RSVP, with the above caveat.

Also, if we don't get back too late, let's stop by some neighborhood to volunteer with cleanup on the way back :)

ps. Tom, I'm sitting at a Waves (for internet) and found a magazine called "Philosophy Now". Check it out!

      I'm in for the trip!

Can someone pick me up from the Cliff Bungalow area (ie. ~21 Ave and 5a St, SW), or anywhere cycling distance of here? I can cycle a fair distance, but ~20km to Somerset LRT is a bit far with a full pack and a bike that ain't in the greatest condition (the cranks worry me!)

I have very limited internet due to flooding, so please text or call me at[masked]-0391.

To clarify, news reports say that the LRT is not working and I have a bike but no car.

Is the 22 highway open? Blackdimond to turnervalley is closed and they had issues in longview. Also It was some flooding in crossnest pass in hillcrest and blairmore right by the Turtle mountain trailhead.
