I haven't been to Jasper in a LOOOOONNNGG time, which of course means it's time to correct that oversight! :)
My plan is to drive to Jasper Friday night after work (about 5 hours with stops), camp at one of the local campgrounds. Do a longer scramble on Saturday, a shorter one on Sunday (perhaps in the Miette area), go for a dip in the Hot Springs and drive home.
There are a number of options for scrambles/climbing (Easy to Difficult), including Edith Cavell. What we do will be determined by who comes along. Depending on the makeup of the group we may split the group and do different objectives.
This is an update for the trip to Jasper this coming weekend.
1. I have booked three adjacent campsites at the Whistlers Campground just outside of Jasper.
They are sites 16A, 16B and 16C
We can have a maximum of 2 tents per site and a maximum of 6 people per site
The total fee for the 3 sites is $197.40, which will be divided equally between those who go
As there is currently 13 people signed up we have room for another 5 people
2. My plan is still to head to Jasper after work Friday, likely getting there about 11 PM
Tents: I have a 3 person and a 2 person tent available
Under the restrictions that Parks has placed on camping it means everyone will have to share a tent. That means no Single Person tents.
Who else has tent/s they are willing/able to use? How many can it accommodate?
Stoves: I have two, two burner stoves (I white gas, 1 propane) plus a single burner stove. Who has a stove they are wiling to bring along?
Firewood is available to buy and I will bring an axe
Everyone can look after his or her own. You will need on supper, 2 breakfasts and lunch/snack food. Beverages for the campfire Saturday night :)
Carpooling: I would prefer not leaving vehicles at Shouldice so if everyone can let me know where they will be coming from on Friday we can likely arrange for people to get picked up. It would also be helpful if I have your phone numbers.
30 to 35 litre back pack
Water bottle/bladder (min 1 litre)
First Aid Kit
Emergency bivy sack/Space Blanket
Down Jacket (optional)
There are numerous scrambling opportunities in the Jasper area, ranging from short and easy to long and difficult. We will decide as a group which ones to play on.
