Mount Andromache Moderate Scramble

I've been wanting to get a good view of the Hector Glacier in summer for a while now and Andromache affords an excellent vantage point. We will complete the recommended traverse from Kane's guidebook.

We will be moving at a moderate pace with short breaks for photos and, weather permitting, an extended break at the summit.

Hiking time: 8 - 10 hrs

Hiking distance: 13 km

Elevation gain: 1140m

Driving time: about 2 hours each way

Mandatory Gear:

Warm clothing/rain gear, hiking boots, food and water.

Recommended Gear:

Hiking poles, helment, mountaineering axe, gaiters, sunscreen, bear spray, camera.

Waivers are mandatory for each trip and will be filled out at the meet up location.

Please ensure that you have paid you club dues for 2013 before coming on the trip at the follow link: http://www.meetup.com/Calgary-Scrambling-and-Mountaineering-Club/dues/

Also be sure to bring cash for carpooling costs.

Though we didn't reach our objective, it was still a nice day with a great group of people. Weather was a bit like the proverbial Buddha (for those who attended you'll get that :-). Thanks to Tyler for organizing another great trip. As per regulatory requirements, the attached photos contain images which may be offensive to some. Viewer discretion is advised.

Looks like some showers throughout the day tomorrow but it doesn't seem like it will amount to much so bring your waterproof stuff and we'll still give it a shot.

Looks like the weather might be safer further south this weekend (i.e. Pincher Creek, Crowsnest, Fernie) areas. Unless the forecast changes in the next 30 hours it looks like steady rain to points west and north Saturday (and possibly Sunday). Any interest in Victoria Ridge/Peak, Phillips Peak, Tecumseh, Mount Proctor or Three Sisters (Fernie) instead? I really want to do Andromache as it is high on my interest list, but am thinking a sunnier weekend might make the views more enjoyable. Don't want to rain on anyones parade (no pun intended) but just some food for thought.

Looks like the south forecast is now 30% chance of T-storms and some lightning later in the afternoon and early evening. Kind of like what I encountered a last year on the summit of Sentry Mountain. Anyone heading south might want to make plans to get off the summit by late noon.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
