Eiffel Peak - Yellow Larches and White Snow

(I am recycling Garry’s posting from his Sept. 14, 2013 trip. Thank you Garry!)

Eiffel Peak is just to the South-West of mount Temple. The approach to Eiffel Peak follows the Larch Valley hiking trail from the Moraine Lake parking lot. This trip will be an easy scramble in possibly difficult, winter-like weather conditions. You should be comfortable with a 12km/1200+ meter moderate scramble to participate in this trip.

Please review the follow trip reports for to know what to expect:

The weather forecast calls for possibly winter-like conditions, so be prepared for high winds, -15C temperatures with the wind chill factor, and maybe some scattered snowfalls along the way. Check out http://www.mountain-forecast.com/peaks/Eiffel-Peak/forecasts/3084 for a weather report. But maybe beautiful sky openings too, and magic bright blue, yellow white colors.

This trip will not be cancelled if the weather forecast deteriorates, but we may choose another mountain objective on Saturday morning.

The trip to Eiffel Peak is in a restricted area which requires tight groups of at least 4 people. Parks Canada fines for failure to stay in tight groups are > $1000. So no running away ahead of the group please.

Meetup time: 6:30 AM at Shouldice Arena.

Departure: 6:40 AM
Difficulty: Easy to Difficult
Estimated trip time: 7-10 hours
Elevation gain: 1220 Meters

Required gear:  Helmet, hiking boots, warm/winter clothes (2 pairs of socks, layer clothing, gloves+mitts, toque, down jacket, balaclava), food, 2 liters of water, crampons or icers/micro-spikes, poles

If you have a park pass, please bring it, even if you do not plan to drive.

Please make sure that your current membership has been paid for 2013. If you have not paid your membership, you can pay online. This is the preferred method as it saves time in the morning.

Waivers are mandatory for every trip and will be signed at the meeting location. It is the responsibility of the participant to check for any updates, changes or cancellations before the day of the trip. Be sure to bring extra cash to pay the driver you get a ride with to the trail head.

Let me know if you need a ride to Shouldice Park as I might be able to arrange something. If you have any other questions, please email me.

Beautiful trip in winter wonderland. Sustained winds and some gusts climbing up and down the ridge, but winds were surprisingly moderate on the summit.

This is an easy scramble, but scramble = helmet wearing. Bringing a helmet is mandatory on this trip.

Hi Joad. I hope the weather will hold up. I am bringing a guest. My guest has done some scrambles and mountaineering so she will have no trouble with this trip.
