Easy backcountry touring and transceiver practise Chester lake

Continueing on from Nov 22 this is the first "official" day in the Intro to backcountry touring. We will spend some time at the beacon park by the Burstall pass parking lot and then skip over to the Chester lake trail head and go touring. The Chester lake trail is a good touring work out some steep bits and flats . Elevation gain is around 310 meters round trip about 8.5 kms or so. Avalanche risk is minimal until you pass the lake itself

Please note that preference will be given to those that attended the Nov 22 evening meeting.

This is a winter back-country event gear required:

Avi beacon, probe, shovel (absolutely mandatory )

ski, boots, poles, skins ( this is a ski touring event not snow shoeing )

toque, warm gloves, googles

something warm to eat/drink, water

dress in layers ( no cotton ) be prepared.

headlamp, bivi sac, medkit

down jacket, helmet ( a reallly good idea ), cookies

head lamp, bivy sac, money for a pint when we are done

Please note that this list is not all-inclusive but at starting point

An average level of fitness is good, we will move at a moderate/slow pace. As this is now winter travel, conditions might dictate a slower pace and or route finding. Bushwhacking can/may happen.

Make sure that you have paid for a 2012/2013 membership with the CSMC. Payment can be made online or at the meeting location. Waivers are mandatory for every trip and can be printed online or filled out at the meeting location. Cost for membership with the CSMC is $20 for 2012. Be sure to also bring extra money for car pooling costs.

If you are for some truly awesome reason ( please use this web site if you are unable to think of one ) unable to attend after signing up ... then send a note through meetup. It will show up on my phone. Being a NO_SHOW causes stress and anxiety leading to fits of Turrets

See you on the Mountain.

The only part that is absolutely mandatory is transceiver probe shovel. Every other is a good idea to have with you. Do not bring single antenna transceiver...
