Intro to ice climbing

This will be a day for those who are interested in ice climbing and have
little to no experience.

We will cover safe movement with crampons, use of ice axes, general ice climbing movement, and use of ice screws.

There will be no leading on this day and you must have/rent your gear. No gear, no climbing. Please bring ice axes, crampons, helmet, boots that can be used with crampons, harness, belay device and locking carabiner. Bring appropriate clothing to be outside in the cold. Make sure you bring a thermos of hot drink and a lunch.

I am hoping to pick a place in K-Country that we can get to quickly, park the cars and do a bit of walking.

You can rent gear at MEC in Calgary or Gear Up in Canmore.

It was an amazing day! Thanks again Kevin so much for organizing this. Without generous trip leaders like you it would be impossible for inexperienced people such as myself to get into new activities.

Great fun!. Thanks for teaching us and setting up the ropes Kevin. Sharing your knowledge was very valuable.

I'm guessing well have enough to go around as we can only have so many ropes going at once. You can borrow mine when I'm not using them. I am bringing An ice screw as well.

I have crampons and a helmet but no dog sitter as they leave for Australia on Sunday. If Ruth can't come I will have to pull out.

Falling ice can be a danger and it has tendency to go everywhere. I would prefer if you left the dog at home. If you wait for us at petro Canada I can call ahead and we can drive out together. Do to have crampons? Helmet? All you need is axes? Please let me know.

Hi Kevin I'm off the waitlist and on the event. I just need to confirm a couple of things. First will there be a problem to meet me at the Petro Can on the highway? Second is is my dog welcome? I can drive my own vehicle if there is not a dog friendly car. Third is I have a problem to rent ice axes as I am busy both friday and saturday. Can I rent or pool in with someone else on their axes?

I think this meet up system has some bugs in it but I am not sure. There is also a possibility of an Intro to Ice Climbing in January and February.

    Thanks Kevin!
We will be in for the 15th if I cannot get for this one. I don't know what wrong but every time I RSVP when a spot opens, my name doesn't get to the attendants list. Me and my boyfriend William Jarrige RSVP in the same time when all the spots were open, his name went to the list but not mine...Strange!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
