Welcome to the Calgary Scrambling & Mountaineering Club!

We are a diverse, friendly and inviting group of individuals that span a wide range of ages; education; vocations; political, religious and cultural backgrounds. But we share one thing in common. Our love, nay passion, for the mountains! Calgary is our base of operations and the Canadian Rockies is our playground. By using various combinations of our feet and hands we ascend these mountain summits and ridges and are rewarded with some of the finest views and scenery on the planet.

Roy Piper started the Calgary Scramblers in August 2008. After several trips and great success Roy stepped down in January 2009 and Tom Waddell took over as the main Organizer. Over the course of the next 6 months there were a number of discussions about the need for and direction of the club. This resulted in the Calgary Scrambling & Mountaineering Club being incorporated as a non-profit club in July of 2009. 

The focus of club events is on those activities and trips whose intent is to reach a mountain ridge or summit or is about learning and developing skills needed for such attempts. These activities range from Easy Scrambles to full on Mountaineering trips and expeditions. This includes such things as scrambling, climbing (sport and trad), alpinism, ice climbing, ski touring/ascents and other general mountaineering activities. 

Our hope is (and it is something we strive for), that all people who love to climb mountains regardless of experience can feel welcome and comfortable. We also understand that much of what we have learned has been given freely by others, and in that spirit we willingly pass our knowledge and understanding along to others.

Please be aware that before participating in an event you will need to fill out the Membership form, sign a Waiver and pay either the one time guest fee of $5 or the annual $25 membership fee.
