Sustainability for Breakfast - National Organic Week

September 21-28 is National Organic Week. To celebrate the importance of food to a sustainable city we will be breaking organic bread for breakfast (so to speak) and hearing about the importance of local and organic food production.

Frank Sarro, Board member for Organic Alberta, will tell us about the importance of organic production to Alberta's food system and economy and introduce us to National Organic Week.

Nicole Boisvert, nutritionist and marketing coordinator for Community Natural Foods, will talk about organic sourcing as part of Community Natural Foods' commitment to sustainability.

Cate Ahrens, member of the Calgary Food Committee, will talk about what is happening with our local food system and address the trade offs between local and organic.

Doors open at 7:30 am. Breakfast and networking until 8:00 am. Presentations until 8:45 am followed by Q&A and general announcements.

Payment is required at the time of your RSVP and is $12 per person. There will be a limited number of spaces at the door for those wishing to pay by Calgary Dollars.

This event is limited to 80 guests. Proudly organized by REAP Business Association, The City of Calgary's Office of Sustainability and Bullfrog Power.

Here's the announcement I wanted to make but was unable to do so - S4B is just too popular!

We were reminded of the coming municipal election, and one of the candidates spoke up too (sorry, I didn't catch your name). However, I want to remind everyone of Fair Vote Canada and the local chapter, Fair Vote Calgary. Basically we want to move Canada out of the 19th. Century voting system we now use to Proportional Representation, to 'Make Every Vote Count'. More information at www.fairvote.ca, and local information at www.fairvotecalgary.ca. We also have a new meetup group, www.meetup.com/Fair-Vote-Calgary Next event will be on Sunday evening 27 October, watch for announcements. Feel free to contact me if you want more information.

Some issues with volume for the first speaker, but great otherwise.

Good speakers, lots of information - too much to digest (groan!) in a short sitting.
