Since 2010, Apiaries and Bees for Communities (A.B.C) has been motivated by the long-term vision of a better, brighter, and more sustainable urban lifestyle, using honeybees as a conduit for change. A.B.C. is committed to developing a long-term support system for beekeepers; providing education, free resources, fostering connections and facilitating special interest groups.
Last year A.B.C launched a new program that uses bees to foster meaningful connections between businesses and their communities and support beekeeping education. Over the summer, the Bees4Communities partners will work together to facilitate educational opportunities for individuals and community groups.
At this event, we will hear from:
- Eliese Watson, founder of Apiaries and Bees for Communities, about how the Bees4Communities program uses the hive mentality to encourage community development and support honeybee health.
- Lucy Paget, Director of Intrinsi Osteopathic therapy and Naturopathy, about how businesses can use the hive mentality to help people make connections between food, the environment and their health.
- Karen Anderson, founder of Calgary Food Tours, about local food in Calgary and the impact it has on our communities.
Breakfast and presentations are a work of focused collaboration between A.B.C’s Bees4Communities partners in support of honeybee health. The Hyatt Regency Hotel and Catch & the Oyster Bar will be providing our beautiful venue. Breakfast will be provided by City Palate, Fairmont Palliser Hotel. Sunnyside Natural Market and PEL Recycling will provide recycling and compost services.
NOTE: Doors open at 7:30am, speakers from 8:00-8:55am
We will be in the Atrium of the Catch and Oyster Bar in the Hyatt Hotel
