Sustainability for Lunch: Tour of Electronics Recycling Association

Electronics Recycling Association (ERA) is a not-for-profit whose mission is to reduce unnecessary environmental impact by repurposing electronic/ICT equipment through to true end of life – and to compel positive community impact through donation activities.

The ERA pioneered e-cycling in the province, years before government programs were even considered, and continues leading the industry through service and innovation. Not only was the ERA one of the first to recycle and reuse electronics, but has achieved its goals without any assistance from government tax funded programs.

Since 2004, the ERA has reduced landfill e-waste by several thousands of tonnes and has donated heavily to many community groups, charities and other not-for-profit organizations.

At this warehouse tour you will learn about ERA's pick-up services for retiring IT equipment and see how electronic items are unloaded and sorted into items that can be fixed and refurbished for low cost sales or community donations, or dismantled and moved to another location where they can be properly and safely recycled. Data security is addressed both on and off site (depending on the client's preference) and includes wiping and/or total destruction of hard drives and other medias with sensitive information.

Lunch will be provided. Please indicate in your comments with your RSVP if you have any dietary restrictions.

Payment is required at the time of your RSVP and is $12 per person. There will be a limited number of spaces at the door for those wishing to pay by Calgary Dollars.

This event is limited to 30 guests. Register early to avoid disappointment!

Please visit calgarytransit.com for routes and schedules.

Proudly organized by REAP Business Association, The City of Calgary's Office of Sustainability and Bullfrog Power.

Good to have such a good lunch in such an interesting and out-of(my)/the-way place. Alastair & Bob did an excellent job of telling us about what they do, especially nuances I would not have thought of. Thanks, all.
