Please read the entire posting before RSVP'ing to be sure this hike/scramble is appropriate for you. We will be leaving the carpool location promptly at 7:15 AM.
Distance: Approximately 10.6 km return
Elevation Gain: 1230 m
Estimated trip time: About 6 - 8 hours plus driving time. Please note that duration is approximate, always expect the unexpected and come prepared. Please do not make plans that require a rush to return to the city.
Trailhead: The trailhead is at the Moraine Lake parking lot at Lake Louise.
Difficulty: Rated as a moderate Scramble in Alan Kane's Scrambles in the Canadian Rockies
Hiker requirements: Healthy enough to complete the hike in its entirety, good sense of humour and a desire to explore. I have never done this hike before but my research says this is an easy to moderate scramble. The ridge is relatively easy and straightforward. An average level of fitness is required for our moderate pace. Please be realistic about your abilities and gauge them appropriately. Please do keep in mind that I am not a professional guide.
Suggested Gear requirements:
Dress appropriately for the weather (be prepared for anything)
Rock Helmet (This is mandatory and can be rented at MEC or the U of C Outdoor Center)
Water (I'd suggest a minimum of 2L)
Sturdy Hiking boots
Extra Snacks and/or Packed Lunch (This will be a long day, ensure you have enough sustenance for yourself)
Headlamp (with extra batteries)
If we complete in good time perhaps we can stop in Banff on the way back for a well deserved dinner!
Suggested passenger fare/costs: $15-$20 for gas per person and in cash to your driver. About $6-7 each for vehicles that don't already have a National Parks Pass (depending on number of passengers). If you do have one, please do bring it along!
As with all my hikes, I will reschedule the event if weather is unfavourable or if an unforeseen conflict arises.
