Net Elevation Gain from trailhead to Inkpots: 215m
Net Elevation Gain from trailhead to high point: 320m
Total Elevation Gain with ups & downs: 475m
This is a combined snowshoe/winter hike event.
Snowshoe: Moose Meadows to Ink Pots (at 5.3 km)
The ink pots (seven cold mineral springs at a constant temperature of 4ºC) are situated in a very fragile area (stay on trail). Their colours vary from deep blue to milky green, depending on the amount of fine particules suspended in the water.
Snowshoe: Ink Pots to Johnston Canyon Upper Falls (at 8.4 km)
Winter Hike (with icers): Johnston Canyon Upper Falls to Parkway (at 11.1 km)
In winter the lower falls of Johnston Creek are almost completely frozen in a solid mass. Here we will likely see ice climbers and spectacular ice formations.
Roadside Walk: Johnston Canyon trailhead to Moose Meadows trailhead (at 12.5 km)
To make this a loop, we need to return 1.4km along the road to the parking lot.
IMPORTANT - Read:
· Snowshoes and icers are required. You can rent these from the U of C Out door Program Centre, MEC, or Sports Rent.
· Do not be in a rush to get back to Calgary. We will be out to enjoy the day and event time may vary. If the group is agreeable to the idea, we may stop in Canmore/Banff for refreshments / snacks on the way back.
This is not a beginner event, participants should have snowshoed previously.
Required Items to Bring:
• Proper hiking boots
• Money to split Parks Pass
• Sufficient water and snacks
• First aid kit

Carpool departure time is 8:00, so please arrive 10-15 minutes earlier so that we can organize.
Carpool cost will be $15 - 20 per person in addition to your share of the parks pass. Bring cash to share in this cost.
This Meetup is weather dependent and will be cancelled if the weather is unfavourable. Also, if there are any unforeseen circumstances that arise (trail conditions, etc.) we will simply try to switch to another trail located somewhat nearby.
