Winter Hike. Sheep River Provincial Park.

Trail: Gorge Creek – Indian Oils - South George Creek Loop—15.3 km
Location: Sheep River Provincial Park

Half-day trip, 4 hour loop
Elevation gain: 400 m / 1,300 ft

This trail is a pleasant but strenuous hike with excellent views. Indian Oils Trail will be combined with Gorge Creek Trail and South Gorge Creek Trail for an 15.3 km loop. We may choose shorter loop in a park if weather will be unfavorable.

We will stop for a hot coffee in Black Diamond on a way back to town.

Difficulty: Moderate due to winter conditions. We will be moving at a moderate pace and a good level of fitness is required to commit to the entire event.  I have never completed that trail so be prepared for some route finding!

We will meet at the Sirocco Park and Ride to sort out carpools and directions. I plan on leaving the park and ride by 8:00 AM.  We will go ahead with those in attendance at that time. We will also need additional driver for the carpool.

Make sure you dress for the weather and are adequately prepared!  There will be snow and ice.  Microspikes/icers, Sturdy hiking boots, warm gloves/mitts, gaiters, trekking poles, warm jacket, toque, etc. Also bring the snacks you desire (perhaps something warm) and plenty of water to drink.  Please be courteous and bring money to share in the cost of fuel for the carpool ($10-15).

Organizer can’t control the weather but this meet up will NOT be cancelled if the weather or highway conditions are unfavorable, but as a group we can decide to change destination for similar in difficulty or turn back earlier.

Dogs are welcome – check with Parks Canada if allowed on that trail.

My dog and I were so looking forward to this. I came down with some bug. Best I stay away and not spread my germs around.

Update. Apparently there is a winter road closure I wasn't aware off. So plan is to stop at Sandy McNabb day use area and hike Death Valley Loop or Pine Ridge Loop. Similar length and elavation gain also in Sheep Valley PP. I posted map for reference.

Hi. Are microphones absolutely necessary? Also are there any scary cliffs that you need to walk on the edge on this hike? I am afraid of heights....
