    How different is 5e than 3.5?

      It's quite different. The way levels, hit dice and multiclasing work are more similar to 3.5 than other editions, though - so if you are familiar with 3.5 it should feel almost at home.

      In beta, when they asked us what edition it seemed most like, I answered 3.5. Apparently the answers were all across the board, though. The more I play it the more I recognize the 4e and AD&D elements.

      Oh and the spell system is more similar to 3.5 - though you don't get your attribute bonus to the number of spells you can cast per day, it's more or less fixed (and standardized amongst the classes - because your spellcasting classes all stack to determine the number of spell you can cast.)

      Might be better to just come over tonight and try it, as well as look over this free 'basic rules' they made available online;

      I'm new to this group too, but based on what I overheard someone else say;

      Just yourself. Dice, pencil and paper are recommended, but someone at your table might let you borrow these. Pre-made characters are available, or if you are feeling up to it you can try to make your own (not required);

    Just want to point out that this (and future) events says 4th edition. You may want to fix that :)
