WHAT: Have you ever dreamed of being onstage and giving improvisational acting a try? Or are you already an actor and need to give your skills a bit of a brush up? Well here's your chance! The Improv Guild offers weekly classes for anyone who is interested in exploring the art of improv. We will be doing simple, fun and entertaining exercises and drills that actors use regularly. This class will be tailored for beginners. Our instructor Rick Hilton has over 25 years of performance and teaching experience, and is one of the founders of Calgary improv. He has worked with such veterans as Ryan Stiles and Colin Mochrie from Whose Line is it Anyway.
Did you know that Theatresports-style improvisation (such as that seen on Whose Line) was born right here in Calgary?
WHEN: Saturday, October 17
CORRECTION: Meet at 1:45pm to pay your loonie Meetup fee to Brian Class begins at
2:00pm Approximately 2 hours long (it goes by fast!)
(Please give yourself enough time to find parking or walk from the C-train station...we will begin promptly at 2:00pm)
WHERE: The Improv Guild (Impro Depot) 2405 Macleod Trail SE This is the plain-looking old white building beside the used car lot. (Close to Humpty's and the row of apartment condos.) The Impro Depot sign is in the front door window. **Note: there is a 2nd class going on in the lobby this afternoon, so please walk right in to the stage area to find us.**
ACCESS and PARKING: Improv Guild has their own parking lot. Best access is to get in the alley from 25 Ave SW, or from Erlton Road. If the parking lot is full, please park on the street.
TRANSIT: Erlton C-train station is on the other side of Macleod Trail from the Improv Depot.
COST AND PAYMENT:
CORRECTION: $10.00 per person (cash only, please bring EXACT change), payment goes to Rick Hilton at the conclusion of the event. $1.00 DSN Member fee goes to Brian when you first arrive.
WAITING LIST: Members will have the option to sign up for a Waiting List when the "Attendee Limit" is reached. Each time a spot opens up, members on the Waiting List for this event will AUTOMATICALLY be slotted in chronological order (order of Waiting List sign up) and an automatic email sent to that person. You will still be responsible for keeping your RSVP current AT ALL TIMES.
WALK-INS: No walk-ins please. You must RSVP Yes to participate. The instructor has specifically requested a maximum of 10 participants so unfortunately I cannot allow any more than that.
NO-SHOWS: A "No-Show" is defined as someone who RSVP's Yes, then doesn't show up and doesn't communicate this absence beforehand by updating his/her Yes RSVP to No. This effectively takes away an opportunity for someone who was on the Waiting List. Don't do a No-Show or you'll upset both Brian and the Waiting List people!
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: No previous talent required! If you get cold easily, please bring a sweater or wear a long-sleeved shirt as the stage gets a bit drafty at times. Wear comfortable clothing and footwear as we will be jumping around and moving a bit. If you don't know what improv is, here is an example:
