Halloween Inglewood Ghost Tour with DoSomethingNew!

DSN has arranged a Ghost Tour just for us on Halloween Night!!

SUMMARY OF EVENING:
• 7:15ish - meet at parking lot, pay $14 to David R
• 7:30 - tour starts
• 9:00-9:15ish - tour ends back at meeting spot
• 9:315-9:30ish - drinks at the Hose & Hound Pub
• **I will be dressed as Gilligan, and will hang out at the 'back of the crowd' so any latecomers can find me.**

Wear your scariest, spookiest, or silliest costumes (optional, but how often can you do a ghost tour on Halloween night itself?!?), and we will walk one of the oldest neighbourhoods in town!
-Bonus points* go to anyone wearing a GHOST costume on this GHOST tour!!!
*sorry, bonus points aren't actually worth anything but my admiration...  :)
Don't worry: we're much more polite about last-minute costumes than in the cartoon below...  :)

Please have CASH to pay me, the DSN organizer (not the ghost tour guide); I will pay for the group as a whole.

COST: $13 + your $1 DSN fee = $14.00 cash - I'll have plenty of change for $20's.
If you don't have cash on hand, I can arrange with you to pay via email/electronic transfer, or PayPal.  But cash is SO MUCH EASIER!

The tour lasts about 90 minutes walking around Inglewood, so around 9:15pm we should be finished & back at the meeting spot.  We'll plan to go in to the Hose & Hound (next to the meeting spot) for some food & spooky suds!

Meeting Spot: we will meet in the City parking lot on the NW corner of 9th Ave SE and 11th St SE.  The Hose & Hound pub is next door, and there is a mini-mall with a Starbucks across the street.  I will be dressed as Gilligan (if you're not sure what that looks like; red shirt, blue jeans, white hat).

SEE THE MAP OF WHERE TO MEET BY CLICKING ON THE "LOCATION" OR CLICK HERE (I have verified that the map is correct).

Since this IS a parking lot, you can park here, but it's not very big, and this is a Friday night so it will be busy; I suggest you plan a few extra minutes if you're driving, to park in the surrounding area.

From downtown by transit:
This link shows you transit options from City Hall C-Train to the meeting spot.
Alternately, it's just a 20-25-minute walk from City Hall - go south to 9th Ave, walk east, across the bridge & until you see the Starbucks & parking lot.

Due to the consistent popularity of these tours, and DSN's popularity with the tour GUIDES, I've already set up 2 tours for next year - Oct 30 in Kensington (http://www.meetup.com/CalgaryDoSomethingNew/events/217189712/) and Halloween night downtown (http://www.meetup.com/CalgaryDoSomethingNew/events/216971112/). You can't RSVP yet - they will open up a few months ahead; but you can go on the wait list now so I can gauge interest in them next summer.

360 Photosphere for Inglewood Ghost Tour -

Photosphere can be moved in left pane. After Google approves photosphere for Google maps then link on right will appear to see photosphere in Google maps which will be bigger and smoother.

Cool, thanks, Darren - I've been playing with PhotoSynth for 360 shots but I didn't get any panoramics this time. Next time, we'll need to get a camera in the middle of the crowd & have everyone stand still for a minute while it rotates!

      2 · November 2

    • Darren N.

That's a good idea. All I'm using is my Google Nexus 7 (2012) tablet with the front 8mp camera and standard camera app that has 360 photosphere already, and then I just have to follow the dots to take shots, then the software puts it together automatically. Then I just fool a bit with editing.

Great time for my first MeetUp. Met some great people, had lots of fun. And even managed to wear out some shoe leather. Looking forward to the next one

    • David R

DSN takes no responsibility for the use, abuse, or any other -use of shoe leather. What you use when at a DSN event is part of your membership responsibilities. (*ghost sightings, can cause rapidly increased shoe leather use; use caution when signing up for future Ghost Tours.)

This was a great night. Many thanks to David for organizing, sharing his pictures, and wrangling the crowd. Also thanks to Manfred (and Johana the heckler) for the informative, spirited, and fun tour. And of course it was also great socializing with the friendly and playful (although some would have liked to have been seen as more 'evil') DSN crowd as we wandered. A fun, do-something-different night. Thanks all! wwoooOOoooOOoooo......

Don't forget to RATE this event with the stars above, and a comment below them - as much for the tour quality/value, as for the mingling & socializing factor before, during & after.
We always have a great time; but hearing the first-hand comments (& reading them on the reviews page) helps us do what we do, even better!!!

If this was your first event and you loved the tour and the company, let us know publicly by writing a review: http://www.meetup.com/CalgaryDoSomethingNew/about/comments/?op=all (or the 'group reviews' comment on the left margin).

I want to thank everyone who showed up tonight... we had 80 attendees, just what I expected from the 120 originally signed up.

To those who updated their RSVP just before the event; thank you - it really DOES help us organizers, even if we only find out at the time the event is supposed to start.

To those who didn't show up without changing RSVPs... naughty, naughty; I hope the candy you collected instead rots your teeth! :)
You've been marked as no-shows, so try to do better next time!

To all the rest: Happy Halloween, and we should be able to do a different area NEXT year on the night itself again!

Manfred (the guide) and Johana (the rather vocal lady in the back of the crowd; the boss) were very pleased with us (as usual)!

So is this a private tour for all 120 people. I invited two people but will we be able to hear the tour.

    October 30

    • David R

Hi, Thelyn - we usually (read: 'almost always') get a turnout of 2/3 of those signed up; it's an unfortunate, but very accurate, estimate.
So when I have a max. attendance of 120, I can usually rely on 80 actually showing up.

A group of 80 is quite big, but as long as people are listening (& shushing themselves so others can hear the guide!), we will be fine, even if a few more than that show up.
The guide is quite aware of this, and I will be herding people along a bit, to make sure nobody misses out on anything.
