Celebrate 50 years of the SS Minnow "and the rest"!

Gilligan's Island premiered 50 years ago tonight, on Sept 26, 1964.

Today, the SS Minnow is arguably the most famous shipwreck on the planet, and it's high time an investigation was launched into the accident!!  :}

Let's get together, watch the never-aired pilot episode of the show (I 'almost' guarantee you'll be surprised at what you see!), and raise a glass to the crew and passengers that have spread laughs around the globe.

COSTUMES ARE OPTIONAL, BUT BOY, WOULDN'T IT BE FUN?!?!?!

What will you find at the pub tonight?
• Quizzes
• Trivia
• Games
• Costume Contest (for whoever comes dressed up)
• Video clips
• Music
• Photo Wall (become your favourite Castaway)
• the Pilot episode "Marooned" - that wasn't aired for 25 years, and hasn't been on TV since!
• and MORE!!!

If you're not familiar with the show, then you've missed one of the most widespread pop culture phenomenons of the 20th century - but you can still enjoy the evening... after all, it's a DSN pub night!!!

A 50th Anniversary doesn't come along very often, so if you miss this one, you miss it forever!!!

Not sure if this is for you?  Don't worry about it - this is for EVERYONE!

Not sure if it's worth your time coming out tonight?
Well, check out some of the comments at the last couple of big events I've done like this one - the 100th Anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic and the Mayan Calendar End of the World pub nights - if these don't sell you on coming tonight, then nothing will!

So come on out and Do Something New - you WILL be glad you did!

Great time & nice to remember back when Gilligan's Island was on tv. David thank you for all your effort and thoughtfulness you put into another successful DSN event. :-)

I heard an interview with Gilligan aka Bob Denver. He said the cast of the show did not receive any royalties 3 years after it was cancelled. That was the way TV contracts were then. Also when I was in Los Angeles I saw the beach that was used in the show. It is spitting distance from a major freeway.

I hope all had a good time; mingling & meeting people is the most important part of a good DSN night out!

I didn't push the photo wall or other games I had lined up; the quiz, trivia & crossword seemed to be a great success (as usual - and thanks to Richard for creating them!) - but nobody got to play "Pin the navel on Mary Ann" and only a few brave souls got their photos taken as their favourite Castaway (PLEASE POST YOUR PHOTOS!! :)

The pilot episode of the show seemed to interest most people, especially for the fact there were 3 characters never seen before.

In any case, thanks to all who dressed up - we never even got to a costume contest... :(
*Kudos to the real Mary Ann who dressed up well as the fictional Mary Ann!

Thanks to all those who helped with setup & takedown - Seanna, Paige, Alison & others.

I have always said "you arrive at a DSN event & meet strangers, but you walk away saying goodnight to friends". And thanks to the pub for letting us do the silly stuff!!

Came across this in my Facebook feed recently. Hope it doesn't give away the answer to any trivia questions. If it does, I guess we'll find out who reads the comments and who doesn't. Only the first half is about Gilligan's Island. The second half is about The Brady Brunch. http://m.aol.com/article/2014/08/29/little-known-facts-about-gilligan-s-island-and-the-brady-bun/20954312/

BTW, one of my all-time fave TV shows is also celebrating an anniversary this week. The first episode of Friends aired 20 years ago today.

I concur, friends was one of the best shows. 20years? time sure does fly...If you have Netflix, check out a show called "Episodes". Matt Leblanc plays himself cast in a ficticious (I can't spell) sitcom. He won an Emmy for it. A little blue, but funny. see you friday

Did you know they say that the Cat & Fiddle pub is haunted, as it used to be a funeral home. Maybe a few uninvited spooks may join us.

Look forward to just sitting back, hearing some tales, perhaps of fateful trips etc etc. Gilligans Island changed my life!!!
