A landscape shoot

Moderate hiking but not so much that there is not time to shoot. The Lakes trail out of Wolverton should offer quite a variety; sticks to cliffs, lakes to rocks, but the trek is significant. Probably best to beat daylight and maybe catch an awesome aspen glow. A drive down into Kings Canyon near the river could also fetch some great stuff.

I will never make plans next time and wait until someone responsible make arrangements. I have been working many long hours in the past week and felt exhausted and slept till 11a.m this morning. Who will make plans for some events?

It looks like you have chosen our studio as the meeting location for this event. I will be happy to open the studio about 8:30 am tomorrow so that people have a place to gather before taking off. I won't be able to join the shoot due to clients appointment tomorrow, but it would be great to meet those attending tomorrow's shoot.

Hi....I have no idea about the entire plan of this hike and the reason I chose this place because it was on the list of previous events. How can we arrange this hike and who would like to take the lead? Please let us know, so we can be prepared. I drive from Merced and I don't think I can't drive more than one hours or so. We would need a great organizer to take care of this event. Thank you and I am sorry for any inconvenience!

Im a little confused. I can't go this sunday the 8th. (Im hiking Alta on Saturday) But i wondering if you are still planning to hike up the lakes trail? It's a good 2 hour drive from Clovis to the Trail head at Wolverton and 4.3 miles from there to the first lake, Heather. So about 4-5 hours of driving and strong hiking at elevation. (Heather is at 9000')
Great! If everyone is up to it or if the objective is afternoon light, good!
    Just to clarify ...

Do you have a date in mind?

Doug, I would like to go to Pear and then come back out. However, that is a pretty intense hike, especially if one is carrying a few extra pounds of lense and pod. Depending on the people going, some might choose to stop at the first lake. I've been there, but not to Pear.

This is a great hike. In looking at the info I didn't see a date for the hike. Also, are you thinking of going all the way to Pear Lake?

Hi, I'm a newbie. The photos from your hike look great. I'm definitely interested. Excited to meet some of Fresno's photographers and learn a few new things.

I was at Kings Canyon on the 16th BEFORE we got more snow & the road between Kings Canyon & Sequoia was already closed. Perhaps it has reopened since then. They close it as weather permits. I am very interested in the hike but need a date & Trail info :-) Thanks, Maggie
P.S. GG there was a write-up in the Fresno Bee jan. 15th on the eagles at Millerton. They give tours to view them by boat. Call[masked] to book a tour (20 dollars) but very close to the eagles.

Thanks for all the input. I guess my concern was how far we'd be carryinf tripods and equipment. Sounds like a great idea once the roads are openand trails safe.
Anyone know about the eagles at Millerton? Are they veiwable by foot?

Steve's comments are accurate. I apologize for offering two suggestions in one. (I'm new to th is meetup and didn't understand the suggestion proceedure correctly. ) The Lakes trail is likely closed with the current storms. The first lake is at 9000'. Since parts of the trail are near cliff faces, it can be treacherous in snow and ice conditions. Mid to late spring (waterworks) would be good; summer into October generally great conditions. Check out Google Earth, Sequoia National Park.

The hike starts in Wolverton, which is close to Lodgepole in the Sequoia N.P. Elevation there is close to 7300 feet. I hiked to Heather Lake once, which is about a 4 miles and 2000 feet climb. The time on the lakes trail would depend on; how far we went and physical condition of the hikers (I might be slower than some).
I know that the road into Kings Canyon as well as the Lakes trail are closed in the winter; I'm not sure if they close on a certain date or do to weather.
    I hope this helps.
