30yr-retired bilingual h s science teacher; love fishing and am addicted to photography: landscape/candids. I am NEVER without a camera, but am no pro- I want to learn more & take photography more seriously & use it to help others in charitable ways.
I really enjoyed the people I met. All were congenial and accepting of me and my lack of expertise, the pros and enthusiasts alike were willing to just jump right in and share what they knew about any attempt or comment I'd make regarding getting a good shot. Up till this meetup, my experience had been that most any inquisitive encounter with a pro or near-pro would result in an air of possessiveness of their knowledge and an unwillingness to share. The California/Central Valley Photography group was extremely intent on sharing their insight and understanding of the art of photography. I guess the attitude they all exhibited could best be described by the words generous and willing. I think that they all knew that what they shared would not jeopardize their own standing...techniques and tips can be researched, shared and learned by someone ambitious, and are common knowledge, available to all who seek it...it's an individual's own talent in using it that can't be stolen.
