Gyro is a mens friendship fraternity that was founded 103 years ago in Cleveland OH. The simple, yet powerful idea of the importance of friendship in ones life began when 3 college friends graduated from Western Reserve U. Shortly afterward they realized how much they missed that special fellowship that had meant so much in their daily lives. They started meeting for weekly luncheons.
Feeling that friendship was too important to be taken lightly and should be shared they recruited 6 other members who felt the same. Gyro International grew to over 5000 members in 129 clubs all across North America.
Today, Gyro is still fraternal in nature with our wives being very involved and supportive. We are truly social with a calendar of events that offers, house parties, dinner theatre, restaurant outings, baseball games, lobsters fest, pig roast, bocce, golf, cruises, as well as travel to our annual International Conventions.
There is inter-club joint activity with other chapters in close proximity providing the satisfying experience of making friends nearby or with Gyros across North America. No one is selling anything, and egos are checked at the door. We are anxious to perpetuate and strengthen Gyro by adding new friends. We have 7 chapters here in FL and are hoping to attract "Baby-boomer" age members, or younger.
We are high spirited, fun loving and active in our lives and look for the same personalities to add to our membership roster. If you are interested, make contact, or stop by for breakfast every Friday at Mels Diner on Pine Island 8:00-8:15am. Ask for the Gyro Group.
