Second Monday Book Group - Little Bee, by Chris Cleave

  • Oct 13, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

UPDATE: I checked out The Old New York Deli in Mission Oaks on Verdugo Way and their private meeting room is TINY. They have a conference table that seats 8 comfortably, 12 would be a real stretch. I'm not feeling it, honestly.

Library will not reserve "serial meetings". So that's out. They are soliciting bids for a new cafe tenant, and when that is in place, it may be a perfect location.  Will contact Topper's and Round Table next...

UPDATE AGAIN - WE'LL BE MEETING AT BASIL AND MINT IN THE PASEO SHOPPING CENTER AT LANTANA BETWEEN DAILY DRIVE AND PASEO CAMARILLO.  SEE YOU THERE!

I loved the comfortable meeting room at Pho--on the way home the conversation and personal comments made by all of YOU kept me thinking about Little Bee and life as we live it in the USA----GRATITUDE is the word that popped up for me.

Heidi et al...I have been looking forward to this meeting for weeks but may not make it. Have a health situation that requires surgery soon and cannot predict if I will be up to attending. So sorry. It is a such a great book for discussion.

Enjoying the book so much. Can not put it down.

Have only pages to go...love the book. So interesting. Reading it while I am also reading Americanah by a real Nigerian woman author. Both dovetail as stories of the Nigerian culture. Look forward to this discussion. Little Bee presents so many issues of the human condition.

Americanah was one of our selections earlier this year but I missed the discussion. I do see the similarities, as well. Looking forward to our meeting Oct. 13.

Even if you are waitlisted, hang in there and read the book. People often drop out, even at the last minute.

Sooo I've already finished this book because I enjoyed it so much.

I started it and couldn't put it down (but had to). I'm afraid to pick it up again until I have a chunk of time to read.

    Heidi,
Thanks for arranging this restaurant for our meeting place---the food is delicious and healthy and the price is reasonable for before or after we meet!

After scouring greater Camarillo, Basil and Mint is the location. They have a private room, will happily accommodate us without a minimum order or fee. It would be nice if some of us ordered, even if only a beverage. I am going to open up spaces to accommodate the wait list. If you cannot make it to this meeting, please change your RSVP to "NO".

It was so nice meeting you, Ellen. I, too, enjoyed our conversation and hope we can get together soon. I am a co-host for the October selection, Little Bee. Hang in there. People tend to drop out up to the afternoon of the meeting.
