A Gem Of World Cinema - I Wish
Directed by Hirozaku Kore-eda, Japan, 2011, 128mins.
Two young brothers are at the heart of this beguiling story; Koichi and Ryunosuke’s parents have separated and the boys’ dearest wish is to reunite the family. They hear of a ‘magic moment’ created by the energy generated at the spot where two new bullet trains pass each other for the first time: any heartfelt wish made at that magic moment will be granted. The boys begin a journey to make their wish at the most auspicious time. But will the magic work?

Screen St Ives is the community cinema for the town, based at the St Ives Corn Exchange. It was founded in 2011 by ACE – Friends of St Ives Corn Exchange, to enable the screening of films for the benefit of the whole community.
Their programme of monthly screenings covers a wide variety of films, with the aim of promoting access to cinema, encouraging interest in film as an art form, and fostering a stronger sense of community within St Ives and the surrounding area.
Each screening includes a brief introduction and an optional post-film discussion group encourages people to talk about the merits of the movie shown.
