Full Moon Pubcycle

Friday June the 13th is the date of the next full moon. Why don't we cycle out to a pub in one of the nearby villages to engage in food and merriment, and cycle back by moonlight?

Start changed to 7pm by request.

Thanks to those of you who did come on the ride.
Those who didn't missed a lovely evening ride. Only 30km from start to finish; just over an hour to the pub and 30 minutes to the Ely along a deserted road and riverside path. Even the moon made a showing!

    Apologies, I'm out for tonight.

The logistics won't work for me this time. I still have to get back to Huntingdon from Cambridge after the trip. Hopefully, I'll come along next time.

Sadly I may have to bail out...

The reality of leaving Ely at 23.39 when I have a full day of activity on Saturday is beginning to sink in. If its OK I'd like to meet up with you at 7pm, cycle part of the way and then turn around and say bye for now?

The plan right now is to set off for Wicken at 7pm from the Newmarket Road P&R. I'd rather leave a bit earlier if people are able; is the person who wanted it moved to 7pm signed up?! It's 20km to Wicken, so I hope we will get there about 8:30. Last train leaves Ely at 23:39 so we really need to be leaving at 22:30 at the latest.

We don't need to be fast, but we do need to be Not Hanging Around if we are going to eat and catch the train back - I hope everyone understands!

I am not sure, but that 7PM-guy might be me: I have to sit in the office until 6PM.

I'm beginning to worry about my level of fitness for this trip...

So sorry Neil. Getting a bit late for me. Enjoy though. Dayna

Sorry Neil - Dayna and I have opted for tennis, the Six bells and a short moonlit ride home from Fulbourn! Need to be up earlyish for the Saffron Walden ride in the morning and this sounds like a very late one!

Happy for it to be earlier

Yay, just taken delivery of a hybrid. At last, won't hold you guys back. Looking forward to its inaugural CCG ride.

So where are we starting from?

I've taken a photo of the off-road section between Barway & the River Gt. Ouse - https://www.dropbox.com/s/39edeg0ucaei7qc/2014-06-11%2008.52.46.jpg

Thanks Andy. This is by far the worst part of the ride and lasts for about 1km - it then goes to a narrow tarmac path along the embankment for the rest of the trip to Ely.

OK, this week I'm thinking of something a little different. How about heading out towards Ely, and then getting the train back from Ely? There's a couple of pubs enroute that we could eat at, and the last part of the ride will be along the river embankment at night! Should be fun! :-)

Is this similar to the ride we did with Svava - for the initial part?

      June 10

    • Neil H.

Probably. If we go to Upware then we avoid the gravel path up to the bridge we had to carry the bikes over. If we go to Wicken we don't...

I've just bought bike lights - sounds fun. Especially the eating part :)
