Underneath the Arches has LGBT evenings at the bar in the basement every Friday and Saturday from 8pm.
It is a recently opened venue in Cambridge and it is a modern environment. The bar area is rather tight for people to sit, but quite a few people just stand around at times and get the chance to interact a bit. The rest of the space is occupied by tables where people can sit.

Some more detail:
The venue is relatively new in Cambridge and as yet it seems to gather relatively new people on Friday's and Saturday's. Again I noticed that it seems to be frequented the same groups of people all the times I have been to it. The age groups that go there are a mixture, but it seems to attract also the more mature type (say 30's and over).
Given the scarcity of LGBT-friendly places in the area I think it is worth giving this a chance and trying to gather there either for the whole evening or perhaps for a drink after dinner. If more people start going to the place I'm sure it will be a nice environment to go out with friends or to make new ones.
