The Fort Saint George on Midsummer common is a pub with plenty of room and good beers, and – in my past experience – friendly staff. I doubt we would necessarily need to let them know we were coming – just so long as the RSVP was strictly adhered to.

Had a great time, what with plenty of good ale, good company, and racy humour to go round...

Any suggestions for further pub venues in central Cambridge welcome. The CHG will still visit the Free Press periodically, but in between we like to try other places.

It is a diverse world, is it not? Full of people who never fully understand themselves, others, or indeed the existential fact of 'being'! Albert Schweitzer writes, ‘we are all more oppressed by the riddles of the universe than we allow others to see.’ I wonder how far this is the case for the atheist?

First class stimulation combined with plenty of laughter. Those of you who were not in on the conversation might like to know that we are thinking setting up a charity for sex–starved gardeners: all can be explained to the curious at one of our future meetings!

The Punter is a very good pub: good ale cheerfully served, but may not be roomy enough: Northampton Street, bottom of Castle Hill. The Fort St George is a good roomy pub: on Midsummer Common.

An Independent columnist described himself as a 'lapsed atheist', by which I take it that he had no particular interest in labelling himself at all. I like this, but my mother's description of herself as a 'freethinker' still seems best to me.

Hi all, we are going to sample real ales a little further afield in June... well, not that much further.
In future we will alternate between the Free Press and another pub for our monthly socials. Real ale lovers: your chance to have fine conversation as as well as a fine beverage... ideas for pubs to try are welcome.
