Hands-on Clojure: Collaborative Filtering

Our next meetup will be a hands-on coding session along similar lines to the London Clojure Dojos. We will have a go at implementing some collaborative filtering algorithms to make movie recommendations.

This event is open to all, from beginner to expert. You don't need any prior Clojure experience to attend; we hope to have enough experienced developers on hand to get everyone started.

Free beer! This meetup is sponsored by Metail, who are covering venue hire and drinks. Metail is recruiting! If you're interested in functional programming and want to work in an exciting startup environment where you can build out your Clojure webdev skils, check out the job listing.

If you have a laptop, please bring it along. You'll find some setup notes and background reading suggestions on github. It would be particularly useful if you could download the test data set and suggested dependencies before the Meetup, just in case the pub's wi-fi proves unreliable.

On the day, look for us in the first floor room at the Fountain, which we have exclusive use of until 10pm. The pub doesn't do a wide range of food, but you will be able to order from a selection of flat breads at the bar until 9pm.

Great to see everyone, sorry I had to dash out a bit early.

I should also have done a bit more dev-environment setup. SWANK obsolete? What madness is this?

Had a really good time! Was so nice to meet you all, really fun group. Huge thanks to Ray for organising and setting the challenge and Metail for providing the tab :)

Really good fun, and great to meet you all!

Next time I'll get my dev environment in shape beforehand - Lightable isn't quite there yet.

Really good to see everyone have a go at the programming challenge, and some great discussion around the code.

Really looking forward to meeting you all. Just moved back to Cambridge and it will be nice to meet some other developers. I will probably be a little late though, hope that's ok?

Hi Tom, it's fine to arrive a little late. You might miss the introductions, but you'll be able to join us at any time in the evening. The approximate schedule is: 1900 - get drinks in, introduce ourselves, define the coding problem, split into teams;[masked] write code;[masked] feedback from teams and demo solution. 2200 onwards adjourn to ground floor bar for further chat/drinks.

Hi Ben, Beginners are certainly welcome, you won't be the only one. There will be help available on the evening and our aim is to get everyone to write at least one line of code before they go home! Look forward to meeting you on Thursday.
