In a nutshell, Cambridge Skillshare has been set up to help people get together to learn new skills – anything goes as long as it is help builds community spirit and does not have a negative effect on the environment.
We hope it will play a part in making Cambridge a sustainable community of the future but, grand plans aside, it is about having fun and meeting new people while learning something new! Who knows – it could be a future passion and make a positive difference to your life, or it could just be an interesting way to spend an hour or two…
Greeniversity classes are for adults and are taught by ordinary people. Some things offered may be a one off lesson, others a short course. We are just starting out but we’ve already had courses in bicycle maintenance, sewing, aromatherapy back massage, making veggie burgers, reading music and a whole lot more. Lots more sessions are coming up in the next couple of months – do get involved!
As well as participating in classes, why not consider teaching one? You don’t need any qualifications or to be an expert – just have a skill that you want to pass on to others. Someone will have taught you to do something you enjoy - why not pass it on? It can be anything – how to make an apple cake, how to use a particular computer program, how to put up a shelf, how to make a necklace, anything (well, anything that isn’t high carbon like flying lessons…) It will be a great way to get to know people and consolidate your skills.
You can choose the max number of attendees and it is absolutely fine to choose to teach just one or two people. You will not have to pay for a venue or for materials. We can help you set it up on the website and will support you beforehand (e.g. with publicity) and on the day itself. If you are a professional teacher, why not use our website to offer a free taster class? It would be a great way to let people know about what you offer. Please do consider it!
