Vegan nutrition event, with music and bakeoff

This is hopefully going to be a big event, I am hoping that it will be interesting for new vegans as well as old. Do you ever have the nagging doubt that you should become more of an expert in nutrition - not just so you can look after your own body but take good care of others? And do you sit down with a nutrition book only to have your brain gradually turn into brown lentils? This event sets out to make vegan nutrition memorable and understandable.

The highlight of the event will be a talk from Dr Stephen Walsh, author of the book Plant Based Nutrition and Health

(I have updated this link to point to the vegan society shop, rather than Amazon!)

Due to the time we have the room for, a pot luck didn't seem appropriate as many people will want to eat before 1.30, so instead there will be a bakeoff contest with proceeds going to the vegan society. Bring your best buns!

Hiya, shame you guys couldn't make it, especially sorry to hear about your flat tyre Isabelle! It was a really good talk from Stephen, hopefully everyone got something useful from it. The book and the pamphlet with the most important nutritional information for vegans are available from the vegan society online shop. Or one of todays attendees can tell you everything you need to know!

Thank you Oscar. Will look out of the book. The tyre doesn't seem to be a puncture. Fingers crossed! Wonder why it lost so much air though. Might be a slow puncture. They can usually be repaired without changing the tyre, but it's already been repaired once before (the very same one), so not sure. Anyway, really glad the talk went well and thanks for organising :-)

The booklet is also downloadable from the VS website. Or I have plenty of copies of both it and the book that I could pass to Oscar or some other "regular" passing near Mill Road. Glad people enjoyed the talk. If any burning questions not covered in the book I could pass them to Stephen. Good wishes, Vanessa

Brilliant. Stephen focused clearly on the most important points of nutrition for vegans. Presented with a host of questions, he gave very detailed useful answers. Really enjoyable afternoon.

Sorry I missed it too. I was looking forward to it but then it was so sunny that I couldn't quite tear myself away from digging up weeds on my allotment!

So sorry we didn't turn up. We set off quite late, but would have still been there just 20 minutes late. However, we then got stuck in traffic jams in Saffron Walden due to road works and realised we had a rather flat tyre and needed fuel, so we decided not to even bother trying to leave our town, as we would have missed most, if not all of the talk, and the social bit indoors afterwards would have been hard for me, as usual, because of the hearing problem.

There is normally a loop system at Friends Meeting houses, but do you know if the speaker will be speaking near a microphone and if the loop system for the hard-of-hearing is working and will be switched on? Thanks!

Hi Isabelle, yes there is an induction loop system available, and there is a warden who will be able to show us how to use it.

Sorry Oscar, will have to give it a miss because some friends are coming over for the day ... looks really good though! All the best and I hope it attracks more non-vegans too!

This is a maybe, rather than a definite yes, depending on whether there is a working loop system and on another possible commitment

Sorry Katie, I could not get free range unicorns! They do tend to eat more than their share of iced buns too, we're better off this way.

I'm afraid I have something else going on this day now so I won't be able to make it after all. Hope you all have a lovely time :)
