Theme Thursday - "BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH"

This was the supposed warning to Julius Cesear, prior to his assasination in the Roman Senate. The ides of March is usually noted to be March 15th. So, even though we have done this theme before, I am bringing it back. The theme will be Ancient Rome.

A few that I have are Tribune and Alba Longa. You can also play as Ancient Rome in Mare Nostrum. I think a few people have the game Glory to Rome. There are a few others. The  game doesn't have to be centered on Rome, but it should figure prominently in the game, such as being a player option

We will have several on hand, brought by different members. If you have a game that fits the bill and would like to bring it, please do!  Note that we won’t limit ourselves to only playing games related to the selected theme, but everyone is of course encouraged to join in the fun if possible.  It’ll be a great way to try out new games!

    Chicken Carsar

Got home and checked the official FAQ and found a few things I taught wrong. Would have sped the game up a little. Might have changed the outcome but probably not.

    1. For an election of a office, once nominated you do not have to be renominated for a lower position in the same office.

    2. You only pay the 1 coin to nominate yourself it is free to second yourself.

    3. The Roster token only goes to Caesar at the start of the game. from then on it stays with the person who's turn it is to vote next.

    4. an exiled chicken has to stay out for an election cycle.

    5. the Consuls’ Office can bribe away one traitor for 3 coin. (top left. the ones that approve the monuments)

I really think that all it Did was make the game a bit longer than it needed to be. Look forward to playing it again.

Oh yes these make a lot of sense, it would have given and taken from some players but it was so close between three of is it wouldn't really have mattered.

I have five Roman-themed board/card games I can bring: Glory to Rome, Spartacus, Bacchus' Banquet, Cambria, and Chicken Caesar. I need to know in advance which one(s) people would be interested in, so I can learn the rules ahead of time and be prepared to teach.

hmm, you can't tell tense with the word "read" on paper -- so, I'll add that I read (past tense) the rules for Glory to Rome last night.....

Hey everyone, dinner tomorrow is spaghetti with or without meatballs, caesar salad, an antipasti platter and garlic bread. If anyone wants to bring dessert, feel free to do so. Come ready to enjoy some good food!

I might just park at the Toys R Us. Anyone want to carpool?

Rich, it might be closer to park at Bolton Park if you want.

Bolton Park is right across the street from our house. There should be plenty of parking at the house though.

Don't forget about "Ave Caesar", another chariot-racing game, and "Colosseum" (a Days of Wonder release). "Chicken Caesar" is a newer game, think it was originally a successful Kickstarter project.

Luke, are you going to make it on Thursday?

      March 12, 2013

    • Luke D.

No Doug, I probably won't be able to make the game night this Thursday. I am taking the MCAT for medical school before the end of March, and I am trying to devote all of my free time to studying. This is why I haven't been able to attend any meetups since joining the group in January. I do own copies of Tribune (plus the expansion), Ave Caesar, and Colosseum (and hope to own Alea Iacta Est sometime soon) ... so the next time the group goes with a similar theme, I can surely bring one along.

Pippin rehersal from 6 to whenever we are done, so I doubt I'll make it.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
