International Table Top Day

This event is replacing our usual meetup on March 23rd.

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE ANNOUNCEMENT

This is a joint  event with Meridae Games (Doug's company) and The Card Board Games and Books (Brandon's company). The day is being promoted by the Youtube channel Geek and Sundry. This online channel offers a weekly gaming show, Table Top, hosted by Will Wheaton (Star Trek The Next Generation and The Big Bang Theory).

They have declared this day to be International Table Top Day. It is designed to encourage people to get together with friends, family, even strangers, and play table top board games.. the type we play. We are attempting a sort of "mini" con, for that day. For those who have not attended any of the various game cons, this basically means we will be doing the things we do at meetups, but on a bigger scale. There wil be those of us who will be running various games, basically teaching them and helping "newbies" with rules questions. There will be a game library, where people can check out a game they may already know and just sit and play. There will also be a game raffle.

We are hoping to reach more people in our community, informing them not only about these types of games, but also about our group.

So come out and play games, maybe teach someone a basic, "gateway" game like Ticket to Ride or Settlers of Catan.

We will need some volunteers to help with various aspects of this event, so I hope some, or all, of you will RSVP and offer to help. Of course, you can just come, play and leave. Either way, you do not have to commit to the whole day. I just want us to show the communuity we are an active group.

I know this will cause us to skip a week and then have two Saturday meetups in a row, but I think this event is kind of unique for this area, and deserves doing something a little different than the norm. I hope I will see our usual Saturday regulars, and maybe even some members that don't usually make it on Saturdays.

I have met some game reps for Steve Jackson Games (Munchkin, Revolution, Frag) while attending a "Steve Jackson Game Day" at the Comic Monstore in Salisbury and at MACE 2012 in Charlotte. They had demos of different games, taught participants how to play, and had free Munchkin promos to hand out. I don't know them on a personal basis (although my brother does) ... I wanted to check and see if yall would care if I sent them info about the mini-Con to see if they would want to come demo some of their games. I know that there are some vendors attending, but these guys don't sell merchandise ... they just promote different Steve Jackson games.

Hi Luke, thanks for letting us know about this. Before you send anything, the event organizers will talk it over and let you know. Sound ok?

Maybe they are the same folks I met at SCARAB. They are really nice and really just out to promote these games. It would be great if they coudl attend.

I clarified the location. I thought it was at the Hanes Mall Foodcourt (since it said Courtyard Hanes Mall) so I added "Courtyard by Marriott" to clarify.

Looking forward to a fun time. My husband and I are willing to sign up to volunteer, but we'd like to know in advance what we will be doing (rather than show up and have a hodgepodge of responsibilities on that day). Who can tell us what to do now? :)

    What is the admission price?

    March 17, 2013

    • Doug

No admission. Instead, we will be doing game raffles to help cover the cost.

Hey everyone that's coming. We need a little help if you have the time. If you could help distribute flyers in your neck of the woods. Not asking for you to go crazy just anything around you or a good place you pass every day.

A comic book shop, coffee shop, hobby store, etc. Let me know and I'll email you the info.

Email me at dalenotchip.moore (at) Gmail (dot) com

    Thanks

It's wonderful to see all the support for this special event on such short notice. It should be a lot of fun.

Do we have a page up on facebook for this event yet?

    March 17, 2013

Since this is not a normal meetup is the min age still 18?

    March 15, 2013

    • David

No, since this will be open to the public, the normal age restriction will not be in effect. The flyer that will be going out to various locations ( i.e. comic book shops, gaming shops, book stores, etc) has the stipulation that anyone under 16 will require parental supervision.
