Theme Thursday - United we stand!!!

This month we will be exploring cooperative games. On June 6, 1944, the Allied powers united as one to invade Hitler's Europe, and end World War 2. I thought coop games would be fitting and easier to do. I figured we had more coop games in the group, than WWII themed ones.

Popular coop games are Arkham Horror, Pandemic, Mansions of Madness, and Betrayal at the House on the Hill. There are also the D&D games such as Castle Ravenloft and Wrath of Ashderolon. You also have Defenders of the Realm. I believe that Battlestar Galactica could also coop.

We will have several on hand, brought by different members. If you have a game that fits the bill and would like to bring it, please do!  Note that we won’t limit ourselves to only playing games related to the selected theme, but everyone is of course encouraged to join in the fun if possible.  It’ll be a great way to try out new games!

Theme Thursdays will be held every other Thursday meetup, roughly once a month.  Theme suggestions are welcome anytime, so please email yours and I’ll keep a running list.  They might range from actual theme (Horror, Egyptian, Sci-Fi, History, Gangster) to a game mechanic (tile-laying, card-driven, worker placement, dice-rolling) to a designer (Reiner Knizia, Vlaada Chvatil, Martin Wallace).  Based on the feedback received, group organziers will decide on a theme and update the meetup description.

I know the conditions at Foothills were not ideal. In all the times I have been in that room, I have never had it so hot and stuffy. I took some time and spoke with the hostess and our server. They will let management know and have this corrected before we return in 2 weeks. For the first timers, I hope you still had a good experience last night.

I had an awesome time playing Arkham Horror but am hoarse today from having to keep yelling over all the noise to explain the rules.

Too humid. Too small. Too loud.

    Arabian Nights.

What an interesting game. If I was to wright a game review it would fare very poorly. No real strategy, Outcome based on your decisions are completely random, Created no desire in me to actually win.

    With that in mind.

    I liked it.

I found a website that would greatly speed gameplay too.
You still read from the Story book, but the charts and graphs are in it and that would speed up some of the book work time.

Well, it took us 4 tries, but we finally won a game (of Forbidden Island, not of Pandemic).

I plan on bringing Forbidden Island, Flash Point: Fire Rescue, and Pandemic (1st edition) Thursday (although I am sure someone else will bring their copy of Pandemic too). There are some reviews below:

I'll take a pass through my game closet and see what co-op games I have. I'm assuming (hoping) that Regina and Jerry will have 'Sentinels of the Multiverse' (since their copy is more complete than mine).

I'm in a similar situation as Joel, but I definitely looking forward to try my hand in them. See you all on Thursday.
