Thursday Games-Worker Placement Theme

Thank you Luke for suggesting this theme. We are approaching the anniversary of the law that established the standard 40 hour work week. In honor of that, we will be doing a theme night based on the worker placement  game mechanic. For those not familiar with the terminology, the worker placement mechanic is where you place a "worker" (which can be an actual figure, a disc or a cube) and then take actions based on where the worker(s) has/have been placed.

Probably the best known of these is Stone Age. There are numerous ones though, such as Age of Empires III and Carson City.

The games we play are much different than the board games you played growing up. Some of them will give your brain a very satisfying workout due to the high level of strategy and low amount of luck. Others are totally dripping with theme (pirates, zombies, monsters, etc) that involve more luck and direct player conflict.

We have a growing collection of games on hand, but if you have a new (or old) boardgame you think fits the bill, by all means bring it along (as long as you'll teach us)!

So... let's have some fun rolling dice, placing tiles, or drawing cards - and enjoy some face-to-face interaction! It really isn't about whether you win or lose (at least not entirely). It is about having a great evening, trying to win some of the time, and always playing better the next time!

Just to be clear: we don't play Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble, Uno, Yahtzee, etc. Please see our  About Us page for more information on the types of games we play.

I am planning on bringing Pillars of the Earth (need to work in some games in preparation for teaching the game at MACE in November), The Manhattan Project, and maybe Tribune.

Gosh, this is my favorite mechanic and I have so many of these games. I think I may bring Agricola, Le Havre, Spyrium, and Troyes.
