I decided to start this group when I got kicked out of a local hiking group because I apparently took too long taking photographs in the mountains. Although I can be a fast hiker, I believe that nature should be appreciated and photographed, and I believe that I'm not alone in this view.
The purpose of this group is to bring like-minded outdoorsy individuals together so we can go out to the mountains for the purpose of finding great places to photograph. Many will require hiking out to lakes, etc. while some may just be a drive-up thing. We may do anything from a half-day trip to catch a sunrise or sunset, or we may do a weekend-long camping event in the mountains. Lots of possibilities!
Although based in Edmonton, Alberta, the group caters to all residents in the towns and cities near the Canadian Rockies. We will try and organise photo-hikes to hopefully accommodate most locations and parks in the area.
You should join this group if you are able to do basic hikes, own a camera, and have a thing for mountain vistas, wildflowers, alpine lakes, and the like. This group is also dedicated to everyone whose passion for nature photography has gotten them into trouble. May you find refuge here.
