Mixed Social Soccer

This is a fun game of soccer for all ability levels in a friendly, non-competitive environment. Most days we don’t really even bother to keep score.

Newcomers are always welcome!

Please bring a white or a black shirt (or both if possible) so that we can easily make teams.

Katie has volunteered to organize this week since I am injured from last week.  Thanks Katie!

    Good evening, everybody!

Thanks for all the discussions, greetings and blessings! I'm getting much better today: ) The eye still got redness and bruises, but it's getting better. My head is not that dizzy today. Feeling good!

Yes, I can't agree more with Phil. This is a group with very diverse skills and health conditions. Be aware of the philosophy or goal of this game is very important. Setting out some basic principles might be helpful as well.

Thanks for the suggestion about the first-aid person. I guess I'm not qualified now. (I know so little! This accident really gives me an alert.) But I don't mind to share what I learned from the booklet later. I'm actually seriously considering to take a first-aid course after I recover from this injury. Please let me know if anyone also interested in it or have any suggestion about this course. Thanks!

    Have a good dream!

    Ellie

Hi, all, thanks for the caring and help! I just came back from the hospital, as suggested by my heart-broken family members, friends and colleagues. (I guess the whole school knew it now.) The doctor said I'm lucky that the eye ball is ok so far. But if there is blood inside the eye or got blur vision anytime, I need to see the doctor again. For the cut on the eye lid, I got the antiseptic cream on it to prevent the infection. Hopefully, no explicit scar left later. My glasses were fixed by the nice optical shop staff for free. I'm all right except feeling a heavy head. I will keep you guys updated.

Also, I want to share my reflection about this accident. Firstly, we should have a first-aid kit and some medipaks. We can call for donation to make this happen. Secondly, we should do warm-up activities. Also, be aware of hitting people, when do big kicks. Any suggestions are welcome! I will feel happier if I'm the last person to get hurt in this game. It's just so good to play it.

I support tha Elie first aid kit is a good idea but i'm in more favour supporting that the ball not been kicked hard soccer is sport which is enovles passing and short pass are lot better for the players and the game i stay quite now becuaue i was calling out to pass the ball few week ago and i got huge lecture from Charles in email format that this not serous sport. In my option social soccer fun is and injury free if played with others in mind of safty as we do not have a refree on feild it is hard to manage. I Play soccer which is at lot high level then the meetup group and it lest dagerous we have no refree

    Hi Ellie,

I wasn't there to see what happened, but after talking to Katie yesterday we both agreed that we should be bringing a first aid kit to the game, so I will get one this week and either bring it myself or give it to someone if I am still not playing.

I encourage people to warm up appropriately before the game. I try to keep things as informal as I can at these games but if people would like some sort of organized warmups I suppose we can do that. If someone would like to volunteer to help out with that please let me know.

I'm glad it looks like things will be ok with you, Ellie. It is difficult to completely prevent any incidents, especially when they are inadvertent (as I have been assured that this was). If anyone has some more suggestions about things that we should do to make the game safer please feel free to email me. However, I do not want to turn the game into something that needs to be controlled or refereed if I can help it.

    Charlie

If we are buying a kit for Sundays soccer I am happy to contribute to the cost of the first aid kit. I request others to contribute as well as it is for all of us :-)

That's cool. Thanks, Charlie. Yes, safety first. I start reading the booklet 'Active First-Aid' now. It's been in the resource room of the office for ages! I also will check google with the topic 'sports injury' to get more knowledge. It seems that there are lots of things to learn : )
